Need a louder horn PRONTO. Need advice on the where and how's

Ok, I'm not going to get into the details because it's only going to get me more angry. But let's just say that a horn louder than our "baby-civic" horn would have made my situation tonight a LOT less life threatening. A louder horn would have made an unattentive idiotic driver aware of their fucking careless maneuver.

Where is the horn? And, what are the limitations of the factory wiring system of the horn? How loud is the factory horn (dB?)? how big can I go without melting factory wiring harnesses (similar to the problem of using high power headlights with factory wiring). Does anybody sell a plug & play louder horn for our car? Obviously I would probably have to up the factory fuse...

I would even be interested in an auxiliary one that bellows something like "YOU ARE A FUCKING IDIOT" to nearby drivers. That would really make me feel better... But I'm sure it would be too much work.

Oh, and please don't turn this into a post about that guy that scared people with the air horns on his car. It was funny as hell, but I'm being serious.

The horn is by the pass side foglight...you have to take out the headlight to get to it. I was looking into other options too. Im thinking of just going with an air horn setup:eveilgrin

Yyyyyyyyyyyeahh... that's what I'm trying to avoid (running more wires). I want to jsut splice into it.

How much can I add just by splicing? How much head-room is there in the factory wiring?

What aobut that Dodge Ram 2-horn kit? Any idea how much more current something like that adds?

Wouldn't I have to run two wires actually? from the + and - of the battery?

I know the analysis has been doen for headlights, as far as what the wiring system is rated for, does anybody have any hard data like that for the horn circuit? Is it published anywhere? If I can save myself an hour of running wires through existing loom, by researching this for 5 minutes... I"ll do it! :lol:

What current is 12AWG wire good up to at 12Vdc? 20A-30A or so?? that is f'n nuts. Your headlights would dim like crazy at night if you used this... I think I'm going to get it :clap:

Anybody have any cheaper alternatives to thsi $100 killer??

ps - What kind of a relay would I use? Obviously it has to be somewhat weather-sealed
1 wire from the battery and 1 wire from the horns to any part on the chassis (chassis is a ground).
Its really simple to do and if you dont want to spend 5 minutes to run a wire then look forward to possibly spending more time on it later.
If your dick itches then scratch it.

-The hella horns are designed to draw the same amount of power as most single systems, thus why they dont require extra wiring or circuits.

Scratch that, I was wrong. The hella kit requires a relay while there is an off-brand that doesn't.

Compact horn with outstanding sound. Rugged black body with red protective grille. Comes with bracket for screw-mounting. Kit includes horns, relay, mounting bracket, and installation instructions.

Dude the hell with it. Find a local shop that specializes in RV's and Big Trucks. Have them wire up the air compressor and hook up the dual horns to each side of the intercooler.

Blow the bastards off of the road. Hell see if your insurance will give you a discount for the upgraded 'accident avoidance device'

I just tapped into the existing horn wires , i mean how much extra current draw can a lil factory style electric horn create??.....been like that for yrs. w/no prob.s!________5TOEZ_________

Check out the horn I put in my old Neon.

Definitely not loud though.

Go to any parts store and pick up an aftermarket horn. Mount it somewhere where its not boxed in by stuff.

I put a horn in the wheel well right under where the elbow goes into the fender on the factory airbox. It was just a $20 job from autozone.

I'm going to put it on the passenger side (I have hte splash shield for my CAI on the driver's side).

I'm probably going to get the 138dB version from that ebay guy. He said that:
the 138dB is 2-3 times louder than the stock horn, and
the 150dB is 3-3.5 times louder than the stock horn.

$35... you can't go wrong.
