I need to add some coolant and I looked in the manual and they said only use Mopar coolant. Is this just them wanting us to buy their product and would any other coolant do any damage. Thanks
nope i flushed it myself at my work (and yes with a machine.....you trying to say im unprofessional? )glhs837 said:If thats a dealer talking, he's lying like a dog. No way in hell can a delaer do that for that price. If its you, doing it your self, thats fine, but personally, I would have a professional flush & fill if my system has been mixed.
Freakin smarty pants:tongue:  You didnt like rub body parts on the machine right? Now, THAT would be unprofessional:eeeek:flybye4 said:nope i flushed it myself at my work (and yes with a machine.....you trying to say im unprofessional? )
man im not really too sure if it worked well with my car? i tossed some in over last summer after my 180 stat and couldnt really tell a difference? but it may just be all in the mixture. i plan to try something else again very soon.ODHANZ said:is water wetter or royal purple ice worth it
what does it do, and what systems does it work with
Its not red anymore , We changed it to orange .BoostLee said:ahhhhh shitty fucking hell. After turbo install I put in the dexcool. Fuck me.......so red mopar huh? Damn I'm guessing I need a flush as well eh?
but...Mopar coolant isn't Dex-Cool...thirteens420k said:Well i've been working in the lube business for about 3 or so years. I can tell you right now that dexcool is dogshit. I see so many GM's coming in for an oil change and there coolant is all fucked up. That coolant is supposed to last 150,000 miles my ass! About 3 weeks after i got my car i flushed out the coolant in my srt-4 for the good ol green stuff as you guys call it. It may not last as long but i trust it 10x more than the dexcool. And about the water wetter or royal purple ice, they do work, it does (like someone said) depend on the mixture. The mix for these types of additives is like a 80/20 of water and coolant, the water wetter acts as the lubricant and keeps the mix from either freezing or rusting. I did notice with it, my temps took longer idleing periods to get hot and less time to cool back down. 80% water 20% green coolant and a bottle of water wetter!
I do partially agree with this. While I don't like using the Dex-Cool stuff, it CAN work in the systems it's designed for just fine.rejracer said:There is nothing wrong with GM dexcool. GM in the mid 90's did put in clay tablets into the cooling system to prevent leaks. That is the primary problem with GM cooling systems. I have a 94 impala SS and the cooling systems was all plugged up, but what did I expect the thing had 200k and had never been flushed! Honestly the stuff is pretty good, it does not deserve the reputation it has got from idiots not maintaining their cooling systems properly. Add that to GM putting in clay tablets (mistake) folks mixing incompatible coolants, tap water(all sorts of foreign crud in tap water) and time and you got a nasty science experiment going on in your cooling system.
use radiator flush, like the prestone stuff
throughly flush and reverse flush the system
drain engine block, radiator and heater core
refill with desired mixture of DISTILLED WATER and concentrate coolant(not the premix) (I use the prestone extended life).
Additives like RMI-25 are a good thing as it assists in keeping it clean.
I am not sold on the likes of water wetter, but some really like it.
 people forget about boilover protection that the coolant gives. Water will boil over if you add to much 75% is to much. Nascar only uses straight water so the track will not get all slippery if it leaks. Do what your dealer would do says or otherwise expect issues when you go to the dealer for anything. if you want better cooling features go with a lower thermostat.BLKDOUTSRT4 said:50 percent green 50 percent water
