Why would anyone run spacers on a wheel that doesn't require them?

you shouldn't be able to visually tell that a wheel is 5mm farther out on the car, it's less than 1/4". No, it won't let you put a wider tire on it. That is limited by the physical wheel width and the tires available on the market.

5mm would make a difference to me. and i am aware of the tire selection, don't worry about that, that wasn't the question
