I know this was covered elsewhere, but figured get something started in one thread.

What wax does everyone prefer to use on their cars? Good/Bad waxes to use? Also what clean/wax method do you use?

Has anyone ever used a paint sealant before they waxed their car?

I'm just trying to get ideas straight out before I do something stupid. :stab:

Thanks.

I personally only use a paint sealent on my car, You just get a better shine and protection that outlast any wax. Wax, depending on the kind you use will last any where from 2-6 months, while a paint sealent will last 6-12 months again depending on brand. It is always a good idea to clay your car first to remove any surface contaminants, that way you get a better bond with your sealent or wax (the protection will last longer if you but it on a clean surface) As far as brands you can basically use any thing, I suggest a good commercial grade wax or sealent, try to stay away from retail products as they don't last as long. (So you have to buy more-great marketing though)

There's a book by David H. Jacobs. It's in your library. It has a ton of detailed info on detailing. Everyone will have their own perfect method. My opinion:

Wash with Meguair's conditioner, wax and grease remover (auto paint store), wash again, Meguiar's Mirror Glaze, Meguiar's Yellow Tech Wax

It will take you 3 days. Do it every 6 months.

i use the 3 step system from meguires, 1-paint cleaner, 2-polish, 3-wax, i was using the gold class, but i have switched to the NXT Generation wax, i like it a lot. I ahve never used a sealer, i just got a clay bar and i am looking forward to using it just to see how much crap is on my paint after 30,000 miles.

NXT is a sealant. I personally use Klasse Polish and Sealant. NXT has no durability.

it lasts longer than when i was using the meguires gold class carnuba, i waxed about a month ago and the water is still beading. I'm not saying your wrong, but i haven't seen any signs of it fading yet.

Agreed, NXT will outlast any Carnauba but its not a durable sealant. For example, it will last about two-three months when other leading sealants will last upwards of 9 months. It also cant be layered like other sealants to increase durability due to its detergents. Each layer removes the previous layer.

Steve, what is TC-3? Is it strictly a polish? Is it organic? Synthetic? Does it have UV protection etc etc? I try many many products but I think you need more info about the product on your webpage.

has anyone tried Liquid Glass?....i think its like an acrylic sealant or somehting like that

ur supoposed to use a good cleaner first, then apply the "liquid glass", wait for it to dry to a haze, and then wipe off....AND THEN...set the car out in the sun to let the stuff "cure" or whatever it does

anyone used this stuff? its about $22 for a 16 ounce can of it

TC-3 polish is a synthetic polymer polish/sealant with UV-protection. It does not require any pre-applied bonding agents or drying additives. Our philosophy is to provide simple but effective car care products. It does not fill in fine scratches or swirl marks. It is not easily affected by extremely adverse temperature or humidity conditions.

To remove swirl marks, we recommend using our TC-8 Swirl Cutter (orbital buffer for best results) to eliminate them vs. filling them.

For additional information about these or any other Tropi-Care products, feel free to contact us at www.tropi-care.com.

Have you ever used anything other than retail Products? Just a question since your making the claim that myself and all the professional detailers we train are just plain dumb.

Yes, the Orbital buffer was invented for just that wax  It will not work on anything else (Lots of sarcasm). As long as your happy with a temporary shine keep using a Carnauba. If you want to kick it up a notch try a sealant with the Carnauba as a topper.
