I might be getting some 18x7 rims with a 40 offset, and i was wondering what would be the best size tire to run, i was thinking 235/40, would that be to wide for a 7" wide rim?

Yeah a 235/40/18 will work but a 225/40/18 would be more appropriate.

When I say appropriate I mean better suited. The overall diameter of the 225/40/18 is the exact diameter of the stock tires and you will not have any issues with rubbing in the inside fenderwell.

The 235's are slightly larger in diameter (not by much) and depending on the wheel width and offset could lead to clearance issues with the strut and inner fenderwell.

You can slap on 225's and know for sure you won't have any issues.
