Hey guys as you all probably know, Chevrolet is coming out with a 2.2L Turbocharged Caviliet in the next year or two. Supercars.net has some concept pictures of their 2001( http://www.supercars.net/cars/[email protected][email protected]$Cavalier%20220%20Turbo%20Conceptg.html ) conceptand 2002 concept( http://www.supercars.net/cars/[email protected][email protected]$Cavalier%202.2%20Turbo%20Conceptg.html ) I must say this Cavi is damn cool. It's got slotted rotors, Borla exhaust and TOYO tires(on 19 inch rims no less) This car is gonna push out 220bhp. Pretty nice. It's good to see the SRT-4 will have some competition. This car is supposed to be under 20k as well. I think the Cavi looks better(don't flame me) Plus I like coupes better. We'll see who is the better performance car of the two in a few years. Just felt like sharing my ideas on the new Cavi. Please take part in my poll take in part style, power and overall coolness.

I'm sure the cav will be nice, but I doubt the production car will have 19" rims or a borla exhaust. The concept is just that, and it will change before it hits production. Other than that, wait and see when it hits the market, and what the reviews say. I doubt it will be better than the SRT (yea, i'm biased) but you never know

I voted SRT for a few reasons.
1.) its out NOW
2.) by the time the cavy comes out the SRT will have plenty more mods
3.) the extra .2L "no replacement for displacement" ;)
4.) I like 4 doors (odbviously you like 2) and the insurance should be cheaper
5.) well this is not a real reason, but that is a concept car ( i know they are making it) but dont count on the 19s and expect slighlty different looks.

Other than that they are both pretty good platforms, but I personally havent heard that much about cavis AutoXing, and I know that ACRs have an awosome history.

I do like the looks of the cavi better, but again its the concept so it will probably change (at least slightly)

Hey guys, very good points

Once again the SRT-4 crowd has excellant persuasion tactics a.k.a. insurance price is less, being available now and no stock 19" But hey at least the SRT-4 is out there. I can't wait till mods really get going. I figure once my Alero kicks the bucket I'll be in the market for a SRT-4. Although I think the Spoiler on the SRT-4 should be optional because it's just added weight with no reason behind it. Downforce on the back on of the for a FWD car means less traction. But hey more or less opitions will be available later this year or next year. Keep rockin it hard in the SRT-4s.

you do know that downforce is useful even on a FWD car, right?

I personally have had bad luck with GM products on 2 occasions, therefore, I strongly favor other products to include Dodge. The major factor other than that would be the performance/price! Can't shake a stick with any other manufacturer on what the Dodge SRT4 has to offer for its price and the flexibility of upgrading easily. Just my opinion.

well

the ecotech engine is good for boosting from what i hear, and as for the supercars picture it won't look anything close to that becuase its onto a new generation... the body has changed to bad cause that car is sharp looking...

I will be getting some inside info

Hey guys, KDOGG again. Yes I know that downforce is good on FWD cars but it they put downforce on the front tires, the SRT-4 spoiler is there for looks and puts downforce on the back tires. I agree this is just a concept but my dad is a Chevy dealer and I asked him about the concept he told me he'd fill me in when I go home in a few hours. He usually knows a lot being head manager and should give some more insight to the new cavileir.

GM has a prolbem in delivery a concept car in same or 99 percent close to what was shown to the dealership.

I still have problem with GM quality control issues since I do own and had own prrevious versions.

Remember also, 220 or 200 or what ever claim is not at the wheel while the PVO car is above what was stated by the manufacture. There are packages to increase your stock vehicle for more power from the dealership later this summer time.

Choice is easy....

Hey I loved my Z24 a few years back, it never gave me problems. However, I remember reading about the SRT4 in 2000 and the car DCX produced is a lot different than what they started with. The rest of these guys are right, by the time Chevy gets this car out it will be a lot different than what you see today.

Don't you feel shafted?

I mean all of you are such die hard SRT fans but in the summer new packages will be available. I'd be pissed for like 100 or 200 bucks more my car got a nice hp/torque jump. Actually anything upgraded in the SRT would be nice. I just like to see competition between companies. Like in my Macroecon and Microecon "Competition drives down prices" and also will make the companies make better products.

I'm sorry you've had problems with previous GM cars but the Cavilier is recommended at it's base model as one of the best econ buckets available. Including reliabilty. What make/model did you have die on you?

If you look at the last 7-8 years, those Dodge concepts that have gone on to production have closely resembled the concept (yah, pedals, supercharger, I know, but the execution ended up as good or better than promised). I don't see GM as doing the same in the same time frame. (Think SSR)

Don't get me wrong, As you can see, I own two GMs right now. The 89s original 4.3 went 218,000 before she started blowing oil and I swapped in a 60K engine. she's at 240K now and original trannys going. My only bone to pick is that GM offers great concepts, then lets the bean counters gut the concept. When GM sets up a performance arm like SVT or PVO that can tell the bean counters to F-off, then I'll be convinced.

Heck, I'm still annoyed that the marketing guys at Dodge got the duals approved.

I just like that American car co. are smashing alot of power in a four banger at a low price and good warrenty at the same time ripping appart the miscomseption the jap car own the 4 banger proformace market. I haven't heard of any import car co. trying to produce a 20k cars with well over 200hp stock. AMERICAN 4 banger power is starting to shine throw, lets all be glad.

There is a very common misconception. The downforce produced by any spoiler is proportional to how fast the car is going, and any wing that isn't bigger than a park bench won't start to produce and measurable downforce until you hit freeway speeds or faster. So at the speeds where you are likely to spin the tires from lack of traction wings don't help.

Bottom line is functional wings are for adding stability and handling at high speeds, they have no bearing on acceleration traction, no matter where the spoiler is, or what wheels are driven.

About the Cav. Has Chevy finally realized that the 80s are over and put an IRS under it? If not I wouldn't even consider it.

I was getting ready to post the same thing. The current Cavalier rides on a solid rear axle. It doesn't have a fully independant suspension.

I doubt that it will have Sparco seats, 19" wheels, and the Borla exhaust for $20k. What's the torque? I'd rather it have the 19" wheels, should make a nice difference if I ever race one.

LOL - Did anyone else notice that at the bottom of the page there is a forum entry entitled "It's still just a Cavalier". Go in and read the comments posted by 'Password Please'.
