Taken from page 90 of the November issue of Honda Tuning:

"If we're gonna drop 20 grand on a car, we want it to accelerate, turn and twist. We want it to last eight years. We want something better than a cheesy ABS-molded plastic interior."

My question is, do you think that the SRT4's engine is durable? Will this car be like a DSM and break quite often (that's what some DSM guys tell me)?

thwere was an article in sport compact car right before the release of the srt4.they took one apart. they found out that dodge did not cut corners on the engine or its internals. they said that there wasnt much time for research so they just threw on the most reliable setup they could, cost be damned. i think youll be please with the reliability of the srt4. i go on the honda forums and look and its like everyother word out of their mouth is.....oh man i like your prelude, it'd stomp one of those pos srt4's or.....its still just a neon.....or there all gonna break down before they hit 15,000 miles.......there ignorant, there jealous, they suck donkey cock. the srt4 engine will last.

Well I'll tell you what. I did not buy the car because it has "bling" and is comfortable and luxurious.

You are comparing 2 different kinds of cars. The SRT-4 is built to go fast in the ¼. While the accord on the lower end of the “luxury” car status.

I believe they were debating between the Civic Si and the SRT4.

Now now...let's not make fun of the CRX. I own one, and goodness, do I love that car to DEATH!

But I really haven't heard about any SRT4's breaking down, and I hope it stays that way for a LONG time.

I've never understood the "interior" critique of the car as "cheap" this /that bla bla bla. The owners of the dealership I work for also own 2 honda dealerships , a nissan dealership , a mitsubishi dealership , and an acura dealership and our clean up department does undercoating etc. on all these brands. I'm telling you , I look in the interiors of these imports , and wether it be a lancer or a civic or a sentra etc. etc. I'm thinking "ok , where's the uncheap trimmings on these things??" Show me a car in the same class as an srt-4 that doesn't have a "cheap" this/that interior and I'd beg to differ. And this isn't because I own one , it's just my opinion based on what I've seen. As for reliability , well , the "neon" got a bad rap based on a bad head gasket design. once that was updated , not too much in the way of "unreliable" goes on. I've seen many a neon even of the first gen variety with upwards of 300 thousand km <--180 miles for you americans that are still going strong. As well , the 2.4 is a valve safe engine you snap your T-belt your not looking at pounding out your valves like in a 2.0 I think any reliability issues will more often than not be a result of a "beat to snot" vehicle than a design problem. Mod up a civic si to be able to run with even a stock srt and tell me that thing won't have reliability issues?? Buy a ferrari and see how reliable it is. We don't drive a Rolls Royce , we have neon based hotrods , and in that light I give it 2 thumbs up

the engine is more than stout enough to handle the power. you have to be a retard not to see that. hot rod magazine website has a feature on the motor.

On equivalnet cars I don't see the car being cheaper than the competititon. It will turn and stop and run better than an SIR all day long.

I beat an SIR at the track by 1.6 seconds, and that was with a soft off idle launch cause the conditions were so poor. I out trapped it by 15 mph.

I'm glad there's people out there that took apart the engine and studied the engineering. I guess time will tell.

What is there to debate?

Simply put, with a honda you are not going to get as much performance/$ Anyone who tells you otherwise has their head placed firmly in their ass.

"First of all, $21K is too much to pay for 230 HP. For $21K, I could buy an Si, bulletproof the motor and drivetrain, then turbo it. Done right, it'll make more power than a SRT4."

^^ That's what the magazine said. Before I bought the SRT4, I wanted to go to Acura to test drive the RSX-S. But I thought, it would be nice to have a TC car right out of the factory.
