TSB #: 21-020-06

Date: December 20, 2006

Subject: Flash: SRT8 - Delayed Or Rough 1-2 shift at Wide Open Throttle After Kickdown

Overview: This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Transmission Control Module (TCM) with new software.

Models: ALL 2005-2006 SRT8 models of the 300C, Charger, Magnum and Grand Cherokee (North America and International Markets).

Symptom/Condition: The customer may experience a delayed 1-2 shift at wide open throttle after a kickdown. This is often referred to as a harsh or jerky shift which is the result of the engine reaching the maximum engine speed fuel cut off prior to the transmission shifting.

Note: This flash will also change the strategy for the ?Autostick? feature. This version will allow the transmission to upshift when the maximum engine speed is reached. The previous version would not allow the upshift unless the driver selected the next gear. Once the flash is performed, all of the changes are permanent and cannot be reversed.
Can you tell us what are the technical/logic changes to transmission behavior in the SRT-8's with this new TSB?

For example: ESP ON - will this now force a shift at 3200 if wheel spin is detected? Will it force a shift with ESP off if wheelspin is detected?
In Drive mode, what rpm will shifts happen under WOT? Is it different if in paddle mode (1-2-3-4-5)?

What changes cause the firmer-feeling shifts? Is torque management logic changed? If so, what changes?

Thank you for any insights you can provide.

Is the 1-2 shift problem noted in the LX platform also linked with the shifting problems noted in the Jeep SRT8?

Hi Guys, two for you tonite:)

Scantools have shown less than %100 throttle position, even at WOT, is that real or an artifact of the data?

Why would I not see %100 calculated engine load until over 50 mph?

And SRT-8 guys, we've now asked the 3200RPM question twice, give them a chance to answer.

I noticed the center bearing on the driveshaft of the SRT8 LX's seems fairly light duty..Any idea what it's rated for before failure?
Don't let the looks deceive you, we have done extensive testing and it will be fine......

Given that the Drifting Charger has the 392 in it and a 6 speed, what are you all using for an PCM on that motor ? The Crate Stand Alone or something else ? Can you give up any more details on how the engine is set up ?

Also wondering about racing parts for these new hemi engines. Is there an active program for producing Racing HD parts for the 5.7 / 6.1 based motors.

Thanks

It has the new Mopar ECM. It's now shipping with the 392 crate engine and should be available as a stand alone shortly.

Reading up in the Factory 2006 LX Service Manual. I notice that the transmission Temperature is monitored. With a software change would it be possible to display this reading in the EVIC. Even if only in the "Engineering Mode". I mean we can monitor our left and right gas tanks and our auto headlamp light sensors.

Knowing what my tranny temp is when I am on a road race course would be a very nice addition. My car is a 2007 Magnum SRT8.

thanks

Sounds like it might be the Scan tool. Try taking it to your dealer.

No. On the Grand the electronic transfer case is going through an initialization process (once per key cycle) and it does it near the 1-2 shift point... sometimes noticed as a bump.

I had the latest flash and TCM done at the dealership and now the car shifts without hitting rev limiter at redling while in slap stick as it should, Great.

Problem now. If you put it in 1st gear in and spin off the line with the esp off the car shifts into second gear at around 3500 rpm. When ever you loose traction it automaticly shifts into the next gear? and if you are racing you just lost. Forget those sweet burn outs or brake stands it just wont happen any more. What can be done to fix this problem? Why does this latest flash have this added. If I would have know this change was going to do this I would have left things alone and would have delt with timing my shifts like before trying not to hit the rev limiter. Is there a new flash to fix this or did I not get the correct flash ? A lot of guys have the same problem but others say they are not having this issue after the flash. Here is what is on my sticker HELP PLEASE.
PCM 05030232AP
TCM 04692392AK The last two letters are smeared a bit on the sticker I think those are the right letters
Change Authority SSB 21-020-06
Thanks Johnchargersrt8.

We just went out in a 2006 300C SRT8 with the TCM flash and did some burnouts. With the ESP button pushed once (Traction control off, ESP on), the car would spin up the rear tires and shift to 2nd at 6000 rpm in autostick and in drive.

Are you guys having this problem with ESP and traction control full on? If you spin the tires with the traction control on, the throttle will close to try to regain grip and this may force a short-shift.
