OK...just got the new Motortrend Magazine and I was comparing some of the cars and I realized something that is kinda interesting...

On the "Speeding" article, if you look at page 92, the EVO accelerates from 0-100 mph in 12.4 seconds.

Now turn to page 120 and check out what they put down for the 0-100 on the srt-4...13.5!

12.4 & 13.5 is not a big difference considering the focus svt got 20.8 and the mazda protoge 18.5! The srt-4 would probably have no problem hanging with the EVO on topend.

What do you people think?

Dude, that's a HUGE difference. Picture a car flying by you at 100mph, now count off one second, and imagine the second car flying by. How far ahead do you think that first car is after 1 second at 100mph? Many car lengths...

(100MPH) / (60 min/hour) / (60sec/min) = 0.02777 miles = 146.667 feet

Actually, if you think about it, from a rolling start they are probably very close. The Evo is going to get there in less time from a stand still because of its all wheel drive. You can launch it at 5000rpms and it hooks, unlike the SRT which would just sit there and spin. I bet a 10-100 mph race would be very, very close. Of course we're not comparing apples to apples, but when more people start drag racing with slicks we'll see some very impressive numbers out of the SRTs.

try looking at the MPH at the end of the quater.. that will give you more of an indication of how well the SRT will do against the EVo from a roll..

from a stop ?.. hehe.. forget it.

Does MT post the 5-60 or 30-50 numbers? Those will be more of an indication. Also, what does the Evo trap at? Again, that will tell you who'd pull on who from a roll. They do have more HP, but they are a little heavier. From a stop tho, forget it, at least until Stage 2 is out :)

Ok, if you have the new motortrend, then you will recognize this.
Now look at the 1/4mi time AND trap for the evo: 13.08 @ 105.12.
Now the SRT traps around 99-100. So that is a BIG difference, like it or not.

Also just for the peeps who dont have it: WRX STi vs. EVO

Im a huge evo fan but you guys are should realize that the motortrend EVO was most likely a ringer since ALL other evos are trapping like 98-102 mph. Hell those numbers even beat the 2.5 sti which has more hp and torque and weighs the same. I wouldn't put any stock in those numbers at all!!

It doesn't work out that way because the difference in distance is not the time to 100mph times the 100mph speed. You can get a *very rough* idea using some basic physics kinematics equations to figure out the distance between the two cars when they hit their respective 100mph.

Again, I caution this is not really accurate but certainly better than multiplying 1 sec by 100mph and converting to feet.

We have:
T_evo = 12.4
T_srt = 13.5
V_final = 100mph = 147ft/s

Using A = V/T we can roughly determine an average acceleration per car of:

A_evo = (147/12.4) = 11.8 ft/s/s
A_srt = (147/13.5) = 10.9 ft/s/s

Now to calculate the distance covered at 100mph we use X = (1/2)AT^2 and get:

X_evo = (1/2)(11.8)(12.4)^2 = 907 feet
X_srt = (1/2)(10.9)(13.5)^2 = 993 feet

The difference in position at 100mph is 993 - 907 = 86 feet.

So using these calculations at 100mph, the EVO is ahead of the SRT by approximately 86 feet. What's a car length? 10 ft? So the EVO is ahead by about 8 car lengths at 100mph.

Again, very rough calculation for what its worth (and a short lesson in physics too!).

EDIT: I just saw on Edmunds that an SRT is 174 inches long which is 14.5 ft. So 86 feet difference is 6 SRT car lengths.

I've seen 3 EVO's run at the track already and none of them got better than 13.4

Untrue! That was a ringer dinger EVO. Check out Evolutionm.net and you'll find out the true #s. Here I did it for you:

http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18992&highlight=timeslip

Sano ran with the following setup:
93 octane
45 degrees
Mokan drag MO
No spare tire or jack
My weight 150 pounds (ripped though)
IC spray on auto except 4th run

Run 1:
1/4 ------14.342
MPH----- 97.61

Run 2:
1/4-------- 14.543
MPH ------ 99.4

Run 3:
1/4------- 14.367
MPH------ 98.46

Run 4:
1/4-------- 13.7954
MPH------- 99.95

Run 5:
1/4 ------ 13.72
MPH------ 99.97

Run 6:
1/4------- 13.68
MPH------ 100.51

These #s are typical of NON-Ringer actual production EVOs. And I suggest you check out the timeslips part of this board. You'll find the trap speeds to be in the 99-102 area. ETs are 13.9-14.3 somehow I don't see the killing you're talking about.

they just dont like that fact that the srt-4 is a fast car. so they post magazine #s (despite the fact that they yell at everyone for magazine racing :roll: ) in a desperate attempt to prove that the ______ will kill the srt-4 in everything. you cant beat the fastest car evar! you need to stop trying.
