I must admit I love the SRT, and am considering cancelling my order for a 20th AE GTI

Almost forogt, you IQ might drop a couple points reading that thread, just a warning.

For future use...

Welcome man....im a vortex member too.

Up until a few months ago, I was trying to decide between the 20th Ann. Gti and the SRT-4. I made my mind up before I actually saw the SRT-4 in person...mainly due to the power (215 vs. 180), and price. I finally got a chance to test drive the SRT-4 a few weeks ago, and it blew me away. The rumble of the exhaust...the power...the seats...etc. The VW admittedly has a better fit and finish...and I like the look of the hatch...and the jazz blue color. However, I cant justify paying $5k extra for a car that is just as heavy as the SRT-4, and has a lot less power. Not to mention the reliability issues of the 337's worried me a bit.

My local dodge dealer (through www.carmax.com), gave me a price of $18,469 on the dodge....after tax, title, license...im looking at $20,241 out the door.

The Gti is $23,300 (MSRP).....with tax, title and license its about $25,471

Thats a difference of $5230. As a college student, I just cant justify shelling out the extra $5k. Maybe you have a better financial situation...but thats what sealed it for me.

Yeah I'm a college student aswell, limitied fundage...

I agree the price is seriously what got me interested in it, for that $5k there is a lot you can do...

I'm thinking the SRT now, I mean, it takes $g's to get a GTI to just the stock SRT level.

I have not had the chance to drive one yet  however I have driven a R/T that alone feels more solid than a GTI...

We shall see, I just wish people would stop hating on it, and actually embrace it :D

Lastly I notice these boards are hella nice compared to the ranting idiots of the MKIV forums
hahah ya...these boards are great...lots of cool helpful *knowledgable* people.

I dont really care if people hate it...they are just angry that they are spending close to $30k to get the power and 1/4 mi times of a stock SRT-4. I would be pissed too
HEHE yeah ain't that the truth, I think the negative attitude is what is drawing me in haha.

Ok guess I need to make a call to the VW stealership, I'm hooked on the SRT now.

  oh i lost many brain cells there too

My fried says the car has a lot of torque strrer

I wonder what torque steer he found...cuz I have still yet have to find anything noticeable!
its funny. on all of the other boards someone knows a guy that has an srt-4 and it has MADD torque steer, yo!
he gets mad torque steer cause he tries to pimp like in the movies *yanks wheel right then left* and wut dawg?
That thread is pretty entertaining. A few dashboard molesters, but a good read over all.
more 'texers?

Wow, it looks like I'm not the only person on the Vortex that has been lurking these boards. Content from here (like pics) has also been showing up over there. Unlike the rest of them though, I recently actually bought one. Here is the thread and some pics:

And the other treads, like the previously mentioned, I try to stay out of. I figure no matter what points you make in the "vs" threads, its going to look one sided if you own one particular car that's being compared against another. And eventually, you're going to look dumb. Although I won't give out names for this kind of example, I'm sure it can be pretty obvious after reading some of the posts over there.

Anyway, I'm coming from a 2000 Audi A4, which was and is a wonderfull car. Hopefully we can keep the posts here on a top notch level intelligense wise and keep the helpfull info flowing.
yeah more texer's hehe

Sweet car man :) yeah so your the texer with the SRT 8)
welcome vanillla. i like the car in your sig, that movie was so cool and that car is also very cool :)

Probably the feeling he gets every time he parks by the curb.
AHAHAHH.. those guys crap me up!!.............. complaining about dash quality on sub 30k cars.. hahha.. since when did dash quality become an issue on economy cars?????????........... rriigghhtttt... those VW guys are kidding themselves. Quality of materials and fit and finish is something you complain about on your 50K Jag, because for 50K,, it should have fit right, for god sakes,, Jetta's do have decent fit and finish for the buck.. but.. honestly........ why would anybody care about that on an economy car, Jetta's are decent little cars. But thats it.. decent little cars...... reliable, good gas mileage.. but the SRT-4 is like totally in a different class, especially cause it will beat the crap out of the Jetta day in and day out. Plus have a longer warranty to boot.

One thing I did notice is how immature and squeemish those guys are. Everyone here at SRTforums is pretty nice, laid back, good atmosphere here, those guys are all uptight at retarded.... Personally If i had a Jetta,, i would not brag at all, id like to have one, sure,, but to brag about it??.. wtf?,, those cars arent even performance oriented at all.

Lets keep the SRT forums a repectable place shall we guys???

is the SRT really that unsafe?

safety is pretty important to many buyers
Well, I dont think its that unsafe, BenzCl500 you should know what quality feels like when you close the door on your CL,, that thing is like a tank im sure. With side impact airbags, im sure the Neon is just as Safe as Jetta, have you ever slammed the door on a Jetta, it wheighs like 3 pounds!! Im not sayin id want to be in an SRT or a Jetta in a bad wreck... but still,, the SRT is no death box,

4 stars in both catergories of government crashtest ratings. Yep, your gonna die for sure in an almost perfect safety rating.

lol...i never said i was gonna die for sure...im sure the srt is very manueverable so that you wont be in a crash in the first place.

im just worried, naturally, as im used to big cars all the time

Except for the fact in one of the tests by the Insurance whatever thingy (the private firm that crashes cars... what the heck can't think) anyways did its head on test, basiclly hope you do die, otherwise your going to have no legs

I'll see if I can find the article.

Note it is for 00-03 base Neon, maybe the SRT fairs better? Orignally was brought up in this forum...
