Spy Shots: '05 Dodge Ram MegaCab
A rumor with some really big backup wheels.
by Brenda Priddy (2004-08-30)

Dodge is keeping tight wraps - and well as lots of camouflage - on their biggest truck yet, the Ram MegaCab. Very little is known about this huge crew-cab style heavy-duty truck, but industry sources are expecting it to make an introduction for the 2006 model year. Leaving all options open, Dodge tooled new rear doors that could - if desired - could be used for a full-size Ram-based SUV, although nothing as such is currently on the drawing boards.

Lots of rumors are already circulating on the Internet, including second-row captain chairs and pricing to match the size.

Thanks to Scott (TheHemi) for the side-by-side comparo:

His personal pics? Not sure where he works, but such pics are grounds for being fired. If he works for DCX, or a supplier.

Sorry to disappoint, but keep dreaming......
Haaahaa...same story lines as the Dakota? Nice try though.

I have seen the submitted patent already that was done by Mark Trostle. The functional theory is great. What i really need for some items larger than 6-feet in length on short juants.

Ref: SLIDE-n-GLIDE trademark:

The smart thing is to keep the bed short and then use this type of funtional device to achieve temporary payloads.

Yeah, I have some trouble believing that they'd debut a TRUCK feature in FRANCE.
We have to wait and see when someone lift the veil on the body cloths.

Hope They Offer Full Bed Sizes

So Does Any One Have Any Idea If This Big Cab Is Going To Be Available With An 8 Foot Bed?? Or Even A 6.5 Ft Bed ??i Hope Dodge Is Smart Enough To Offer It With Both These Sizes, As Well As One Smaller One For People Who Want The Passenger Room And Not So Much The Cargo Room.

Open storage area for rear bed entry.

A rear seat assembly of a passenger cabin of a pick-up truck includes a rear seat cushion and a rear seat back, each rotatable such that a bottom surface of the rotated rear seat back can rest upon a rear end of the rotated seat cushion to provide a storage space beneath the rotated seat back and between the rotated seat cushion and a rear wall of the passenger cabin. The cargo bed of the truck may be extended into the storage space by providing an access door thereto in a front wall of the cargo bed in communication with a corresponding opening in the rear wall of the passenger cabin.

Chrysler to upgrade Mexican truck plant

DCX unit will switch diesel-engine pickup output to St. Louis.

By Brett Clanton / The Detroit News

DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group will invest $210 million to upgrade its Dodge Ram pickup truck plant in Saltillo, Mexico, enabling the factory to produce additional models.

Chrysler has also decided to shift production of its diesel-engine Dodge Ram pickups from Saltillo to St. Louis in a move that could create new U.S. factory jobs, union officials say.

Chrysler said the investment in Saltillo would be used to rebuild the paint shop, train workers and nearly double the plant's robots to 360. The improvements will allow the plant to produce multiple vehicles on the same assembly line, while test-building an additional vehicle.

"Today's announcement is our pledge to the future competitiveness of this plant," said Peter Rosenfeld, Chrysler's executive vice president of purchasing.

Chrysler declined to disclose which new models will land in Saltillo. But Mexican President Vicente Fox's office said the plant will build a new cargo truck beginning in April and a four-door, crew-cab truck in August. The factory will be able to produce 80,000 of the new models a year, Fox's office said.

The Saltillo plant, with about 2,100 employees, now only builds Dodge Ram pickups.

Chrysler is investing millions of dollars to make its factories more flexible so it can better compete with Asian rivals such as Toyota Motor Co.p. and Honda Motor Co. Chrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche wants Chrysler to match Toyota on productivity and quality by 2007.
Chrysler's St. Louis North assembly plant will begin producing heavy-duty Ram pickup trucks with diesel engines by next summer, said Tony Candela, president of United Auto Workers Local 136.

"We just learned the other day that the work is coming," he said. Chrysler officials declined to confirm the plan.

Chrysler also builds the Ram pickup in Warren.

St. Louis North now produces the popular 1500 and 2500 versions of the Ram pickup, and has about 2,200 workers, Candela said. The new work could mean more jobs, he said.

At the same time, he expressed disappointment that more Chrysler production was going to Mexico. "I like to keep work in the U.S. when we can," he said.

October 2004 Car and Driver.
Article by Dave VanderWerp on page 126.
Title: No, actually it doesn't have a Hemi.

"we asked David Mcdonald, Dakota program manager if the Dakota were to be so blessed. He tells us the Hemi's width would necessitate change to the frame and upper control arm mounting points, resulting in additional development that wouldn't be cost effective."

Convinced yet? So, inregards to the Slide-n-glide.......... it MIGHT become a mopar item, but it by no means is slated for any kind of production.

I've got a scan of the article, how do you post it?

2006 Dodge Ram HD

Filling A Big Hole: Don't let this pickup's camouflage fool you.Something big has been missing in the Dodge Ram HD pickup line--four real crew cab doors. For 2006 Dodge will have a Ram 2500 to compete with the big versions of its big-boy competitors. We spied a prototype of a crew cab model wearing a misleading disguise. Dodge engineers tried to create the illusion of a full-size SUV complete with a fake fuel door and rear hatch flaps on the cover-up. The noteworthy item about this prototype is that it has four full-size doors rather than the smallish rear doors of the current Ram Quad Cab.
