was just looking at this how to for the rear speaker install: http://srtforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56801&highlight=alpine+headunit and was curious w/some questions...okay....i will most likely be getting boston accoustics for the front and rear of my srt4. however, i wont want my alpine 9815 head unit to power them because it wont be enough for the power they hold inside. So, i want to put all 4 of the interior speakers on an amp of my choice. My question(s) is/are:

1) how do i do this?
2) will i have to do anything to my alpine 9815 once i do this?
3) will anything be effected by not hooking NEW speakers back up to the stock wiring the stock ones were on?

thanks for the help!

just hook it up the same as your subwoofer amp, except get a 4 channel amp, 1 channel for each speaker

..and you really dont need speakers in the rear.. just get a component set up front, then you wont have double speakers

and yes in theory you could run speakers off your amp and off your headunit at the same time, but its pointless and if anything will hurt your sound quality

oops read your post wrong

no nothing will be hurt by leaving the stock wiring empty.. just make sure the ends of the wires are taped up so they dont short together

and the only thing you do for your head unit is run the signal cables and remote lead to the new amp

..if your head unit has an option to disable the internal amp, you can use that also

Your biggest problem is going to be running new wires from the fronts all the way to the amp. Not too big a deal but it doesn't sound like you have much experience w/ stereos so I would recommend professional install. I'm not familiar w/ the 9815, must be older, does it have 3 sets of pre-outs or just one. If just one you are going to have to split the signal so you have two sets of rca's. Not sure if this was the answer you were looking for but good luck.

i just picked up a factory refurbished 2 channel rockford off e bay for 150 shipped... its a power series 551s(550 wat max) i believe...9815 is a very good deck... i had the 9813 basically the same... the internal v drive amp was plenty for my interiors...Hooking amps up to that deck will be a snap, it has 3 pre outs i belive... front, rear and sub(6 channels)... there is also an option to turn off the internal amp inside the deck... if your running all your power from external 4 channel amp or or 2, 2 channel amps. i suggest you turn off the internal amp since it will be useless... if your goin to run any type of speakers with that alpine deck stick with an alpine amp... good combo
