2 for me. My first was a 99 4 door sport with DOHC. I bought the performance PCM, had a home made CAI, straight pipe. Loved that car. Top speed i ever had it was 130ish cause the speedo stoped at 120. The speed calc at neon.org said somwhere around 135. Now i have a 2004 srt-4 and love it even more.

i woudl never consider owning a neon, until they made the srt, escpecially 1st gen neons, my god they are so ugly

Did you know the first gen Neon was designed to be an affordable roadrace car, built to the max limit of SCCA Club Racing (SSB and SSC) rules, as well as SCCA Autox (DS and ES) rules. The suspension was then detuned for the grocery getter lot (non-ACR) that would create the huge production numbers that allowed Chrysler to payout $1K per National race or Autox for a first in class, with payouts 3 deep in each class.

Did you know that the first gen Neon was so dominant in both road racing and autox that the manufacturers of other cars (like Honda and Mazda) convince the SCCA to allow the owners of those cars to add swaybars, exhaust systems, intakes, springs, and many other performance enhancing parts, just to keep up with the bonestock Neon?

Did you know that the base level Neon was as fast (usually faster) as the 'high performance' versions of the cars in it's class, stock?

Probably not, but I wouldn't expect you to have a clue anyway...

3 all togther,
96' SOHC sedan auto...sold
96' SOHC coupe 5spd....still have
04' SRT-4...........still have

I bought my sedan used back in 99' for a work car and have been hooked ever since, bone stock it wasnt that slow and it handled great though the coners!
I even stuck to the rear bumper of Civic w/VTEC, a fart can, body kit, big wheels and gauges up the piller, from 60mph all the way to 115mph and damn near gave him a push at that speed!
I loved the look on his face when I rolled by later and he saw my stock ass neon with 14" hubcaps!

I loved beating on that car so much I sold it to get my current 96' SOHC coupe 5spd, bought it off of ebay for $2000 and dumped $2000 into it.......

I have......
Mopar pcm w/7200rpm redline
Stock, block, crank, pistons, valves, and rockers.
Fully ported & polished head with 3 angel valve job
2001 Magnum R/T cam and valve springs
INDY intake manifold
Mpx 55mm TB
Home made CAI
Mpx under drive pulley
Pace Setter Header
2 1/2 high flow cat
Pace Setter 2 1/2" cat-back
Booger bushings for the cut down shifter
Front and rear strut bars

This is just my work car that I drive everyday, and it now has 80k miles on it, looks stock (except the exhaust) and runs down stock GTP's!
Ive gotten a best 15.0 @ 94 mph in the 1/4 with it!
I love it!

The SRT is still my beast though!
