Well since you can't get an automatic, and who the hell would want one, I'd take the stick

Well, first of all, like the man said, "We don't have a choice for the SRT-4." Second, if we did, I wouldn't want the Neon auto trans anyway since it's not strong enough. Don't know about the one in the PT right now.

Which trans is best depends on what you are doing with the car. You wouldn't want to try to auto-x with an auto trans. An auto with a manual valve body is lots of fun on the street (I know!) and is even better at the drag strip. In the 1/4 a properly set up auto will beat a manual every time, all else being equal.

If the SRT was offered with an auto trans that I knew could handle the torque I would order it that way. Have you ever driven a car with a properly set up auto trans?

Stick!!

The car I have now ('00 civic si) is a 5speed....I live in los angeles, and the traffic can drive me a little insane i'll admit. However when I get the chance to mow through the gears in some twisties, or in a long open stretch of road...its soooooo worth it. Manual till I die!!! (or until we have flying cars, whichever comes first  )

Just noticed this thread, and was wondering if many people have tried out the auto tranny they are using on the turbo'd PT Cruiser. I mention it cuz i had a lot of fun cruising around in one with the Autostick feature.

I imagine an srt4 with a LSD'd Auto with this feature would be a lot of fun at the track and maybe even auto-x's.

oh and for the record. i love a done up auto tranny. so if it came with the option. auto all theway

I have to agree with Mike B. It is very hard to beat a turbo automatic. With a prperly setup Auto, you can leave the line on boost and never be off the boost until the end of the track. All the quickest Omnis are running the autos. Also the is much less drama and drivetane "shock" with an auto. AuToS ArE MaD SmOoVe YO!.

while auto's may be more consistent and can possibly be made quicker than a manual, it is still a slushbox. i dont want a fluid coupling me to the ground. ever since i got my srt, i've been a believer in the fact that a manual tranny is driving, and an auto is just going along for the ride.
