installed atp's mbc today .. yes i know it's cheap but it will work fine until i get my ebc ..

but i kinda goofed..
for some strange reason the mbc was set kinda high when i got it :?

so i install the stupid thing and go for a test ride.. i drove normal for about 5 minutes.. and finally get it on a straight .. i mash the gas and hit full throttle .. holy shit !! the car felt like the wheels wanted to come off of the car , and my face started to peel back from the torque , and i hit 100 from a 10mph roll in no time , i almost shit my pants.. i thought to my self that it couldnt be set right , because the car was pulling like it had well over 300 pounds of torque.. so i stopped and ran it again ,this time i watched the boost gauge ...
i almost puked !!
fucking spiked at 20psi and ran steady at 19 psi !! :shock:
holy shit !!
i'm surprised the car didnt blow up !!
the good thing is , i didnt get a cel , or detonation.. but i hope i didnt do any damage , with the breif runs..
so i retuned it to 16psi .. and the turbo spools in like a second and holds steady at 16psi in 3rd - 5th gears .. but 1st and second start at 16psi , and drop to 12psi near redline.. can this be corrected ?? if not oh well, because the fucking thing pulls like a freight train.. and it is running 13's in its sleep .. i want to bring it to the track to find out.. but jesus christ it screws !!

Tried bypassing the ECU control of the BOV today for that redline problem, but it still drops off as the RPM's increase... looks like it's the wastegate spring being so weak... gonna have to wait till someone gets the upgraded wastegate actuator installed....

so the first time you run with the MBC you floor it WOT without paying attention to your boost guage.....?

Those where the exact words I thought to myself!

I always set the MBC (it's internal spring pressure) so that I can blow through the pressure side and lift the ball off it's seat with just my mouth. That has to be like 1 psi... so I know it's not sky high when I start tuning. Then take it for a spin... floor it (3rd gear)... watch gauge... read the boost level... get off the gas.... stop car... leave running (for expediency) crank MBC 1/4 turn tighter... repeat.

Can usually get it set after about 4 stops.

Glad to hear you didn't blow anything!

From everything I have read about how sturdy the engine internals are, and how rich the air-fuel ratio is, this car will be very resistant to ,uh, over-enthusiastic attempts to tune it.

3rd gear is a good gear to tune in i would also say doing it under load helps too (going up a hill)....

hey what can i do .. it;s fixed now.. like i said no detenation .. and the car didnt cel .. so it looks alright ..

mine is now at 14psi ,gonna go to englishtown raceway for the NHRA sport compact nationals.

hey jean just curious ..
but you have some great times already .. has your bf ever taken a spin on the track .. i know he is a real gear head , what do you think he can do ?? :D
