Not liking my track times at all.. :(

I'm abit frustrated and depressed at the same time about my track performance with my car. Just yesterday I ran it 4 times and my best times were 15.2's (consistently) and my worst being a 15.4 (missed 4th gear, my tranny felt too stiff to get it in.. no pun jokes plz). This time I had new tires, rims, dog bone mount inserts, a new coil pack +wires, changed my tranny and motor oil to royal purple oil. Oh yeah, with the inserts I don't get wheel hoppin anymore so i'm happy about that.

The weekend before that without the new setup, the best time I ran was a 14.7. A better experienced SRT driver ran it once and got a 14.5. So I came to a conclusion that It's mainly me being a suckass shifter.

Maybe I need to tune my car because I got it from a previous owner and I'm pretty sure he ran the hell out of it (I got it with 23k miles on it, but its a REBUILT..)

I'm planning on getting a D-tech to tune my A/F and probably a STS to help with my shifting before my next track experience.



My current mods:

AEM CAI
AGP WGA (was spiking at 16 and holding at 13-14, I'll need to turn it up the next time)
MSD COIL PACK (I know it makes no difference, but I had the money..but should'vei nvested it somewhere else)
MSD SPARK PLUG WIRES
GREDDY CATCH CAN + CHECK VALVE (still wanted to list it)
DOGBONE INSERTS

and replaced my fluids to ROYAL PURPLE OIL

What are you getting for MPH at the track and ever had it dynoed?

What are you getting for MPH at the track and ever had it dynoed?
No never had it dyno'd. Main reason is because I don't know what to expect to get out of it besides knowin how much HP/Torque my car gives out. Would they be able to give out a full out service as tuning my A/F and all that? I do plan on getting it dyno'd some day though. I hoped I wouldn't need to all that much if I got a D-tech to help tune it for me.

My MPH were mid-high 80's which boggled the hell out of me. my track relay 2 weekends ago were in the mid-high 90's
check for boost leaks
it was a bad track night everybody was running like crap for some reason. my best was a 13.3ish at only 106 maybe u have a bad boost leak who knows but like i said it was a very bad track night there was another srt-4 that was running like crap as well similar mods as me but couldnt trap over 102 with 2.0 60ft's. You should definately be trapping higher than that tho u might have a bad boost leak or u need a driver mod haha. I guess i should of took one run with your car and see if it was u or just your vehicle. I will take a look at your car next time i get up with u to see if i can find any leaks or anything like that. u have my number give me a call if u want me to help u out.
Yeah. good idea. One of my friends have a boost leak tester so I'll have to hit her up.

i guess i will have to host a boost leak day ;) at desiree's if they don't mind i think we all need to test them out if u haven't tested these cars out for boost leaks guess what. YOU HAVE ONE ;). i need to do it as well very bad ;) my car should be faster than what it is ;)

My first time at the track I was doing 15.2 consistently... I am still bone stock but my times have gone down to 14.3.. practice makes perfect. My problem is my launching. Perhaps if your having trouble with your shifting, get a short throw, it might help *shrug*

What were your 60' times? That is what you need to work on when drag racing. Just a good quick smooth shift is sufficient. No need to slam the living piss out of it. I still need to work on my 60's at the track as well. Ideally I want to get to a 2.0 on street tires. My car didn't trap as high as it should either and people have told me the same thing (check for boost leaks).

The same as in my case, I think your issue is a probably a two part problem. 1) you need more seat time to get the launch down 2) you have boost leaks as indicated by the low trap speed.

you cannot drive bad enough to have trap speeds in the 80's. Probably boost leak, but if not, you got something going on.

Yeah it was quite of a drag that night. I think even the EVO that I was goin up against was havin a bad day. One of his time was a 14.4ish. I think the only person I knew that was doing alright was mike (if thats his name..)

Would like to thanks everyone for their replies and yeah I will have to get the boost checked out. It's going to be packed next week because of that car show comin up! hope we can run some :)
hmm...was it professionaly rebuilt or did the previous owner just throw some things together, also exactly why was it rebuilt (spun rod bearing, bent rod ect.)
you should also do a compression test, and if thats good, do a leak down test.
