New Apexi S-AFC II...hmmm?

It states in the ads that it has an integrated knock meter.

Am I misunderstanding something somewhere as I though that you can't read knock on an OBDII car?

You can't.:( It works for the older OBDI computers or similar.

It also doesn't read knock counts, but a percentage of knock.

Actually it hooks up to your stock knock sensor if i recall and lets you know if the car is seeing a knock signal.

For the price of the AFC, i would go ahead and get the Emanage instead, it conrrolls ignition.

The only draw back is that you need the profect-e01 boost controller to go along with it
thats a draw back?

Umm, it won't work on an OBD-II ECU.

E-manage requires a laptop to control ignition.

You can get a second generation AFC for around $300-$350, how much do E-Manages go for??

About $495.00, I think but that's with the basics. I believe in order to get timing control, you have to get the full harness and software.

Are you saying that it bypasses the ecu & just reads it straight off the knock sensor?

I've been pondering this option as well. On the E-manage I'm assuming you can you adjust the fuel with the eo1's little hand held gismo & LCD screen as well as a laptop...I would hope?

Anyway, If is true about the S-AFC II it would be worth it's weight in gold when it comes to "piggyback" tuning just for the ability to read knock. Then again it's only a persentage of the knock & not the actual knock count? So maybe not :?

The S-AFC II does read knock straight off of the knock wire. It is a percentage and so you will need to look for percentages upwards of 140% for getting bad knock counts. Of course, if you had datalogger, you wouldn't need the emanage or the SAFC readings.:)

What I like about the SAFC that I dont' like about Standalones is: 1) I can continuously read and tune as I drive by myself without having a laptop hooked up. 2) I can convert back to stock fairly quickly.

I thought you don't "need" a laptop for the E-Manage. You can do everything just on the regular Profec screen, I though.

Maybe so. I didn't know that the profec could interface with the Emanage.

-M
Yes, the Profect-eo1 does interface with the emanage system so you dont really need a lap top. But its easier with the laptop though.

IN fact on my unit, i can pull up the map for the ignition and fuel and I can program it too. It wont do anything though being that the emange ecu is not hooke dup.

The emange retails for $380. The harness for the fuel and ignition is about $45 or so. The map sensor is about $150 and the hanress fo r map is about $40.

This is etail so you can always get it for cheaper.
Still won't beat out (pricewise) a SAFC-II with Super ITC.:)

Oh by far it will spank the afc.

1. It has 3hr worth if data logging. Thats gold with in itself.

2. It can display A/F ratio unlike a voltage value like the AFC.

3. Has 3 warning , two that show up on the e01, and 1 that gives a 14v output to a wire that you can connect anything to (like a shift light).

4. Can run extra injectors.

5. Has 1 digital input and 1 analog input which you can have an output for each at what ever value you set it to. So i guess you can have NOS turn on at X rpm. (speculating but i think it can be done)

6. You can remove the memory card and share it with yoru buddy. WHen I sell the eo1 for the SRT-4, i set the values in my car then install it in my customers car. Makes it easier to get up and go.

There are alot more features on it but i cant think of them off hand. The BK fish and onion rings have my mind on one thing, food. :)

Won't come close to a true datalogger (which is what I have).:)

2. It can display A/F ratio unlike a voltage value like the AFC.
Not useful, but the datalogger can display as well.

3. Has 3 warning , two that show up on the e01, and 1 that gives a 14v output to a wire that you can connect anything to (like a shift light).
Not needed. A luxury that will never be used.

4. Can run extra injectors.
Again, not needed unless you plan on running a race car (which the average individual isn't).

5. Has 1 digital input and 1 analog input which you can have an output for each at what ever value you set it to. So i guess you can have NOS turn on at X rpm. (speculating but i think it can be done)
Luxury again. I wanna know about my ECU, not how to blow up my engine with NOS!!

Done on a pocketlogger and can be viewed on the computer and printed out.

For all that, you only need a knock sensor, timing control, and fuel control, and a logger that logs: rpm, fuel, fuel trims, air flow, air density, timing, air temp, etc.. to properly tune a car with bolt-on mods.

I have all that now for $625.00!

YOu forgot A/F. YOu need to know A/F ratio to know if everything yoru doing is coming out right. THe warnings are great, you can have it trigger if your A/F goes leaner than what you want.

If your on a budget, go with the afc. I am not so i prefer tha emanage because its easy to controll with my e01. :)
Phoenyx, what do you have for $625?
