sorry, shoulda quoted you

you asked whether there was a full redesign between first and second gen. My answer was yes.

usually you can tell right away whether or not its another generation. The 1st gen neons looked so different (and crappy) compared to the new body style

sometimes though, automakers freshen the car a bit...maybe add fender flares or aluminum touches etc. thats the difference between full redesign and freshening.

phew

i understand that the gen1 LOOKS alot better than the gen2, but isnt that just the bodywork? just like they changed the 2003 to look better than the gen2. (subjective)

its not a new gen because it looks better. its a new gen because all the underpinnings are different...dimensions, etc. but yes it does look better, which is part of the full redesign

its usually very easy to tell two generation apart

a new generation usually consists of, major body changes, engine and tranny changes, as for the 03 neon, thats what dcx refers to as refreshing, but none of the drivetrain components are different. the 03's have a bit more cabin room than the 00-02 ones but thats it really

Hopefully better paint (re: Lapis Blue peeled like a mofo) and a better head gasket. These two things alone gave 1st gen owners fits if I'm not mistaken.

Virtually everything about the Neon was changed for 2000. Chassis, suspension, bodywork electrical systems, and some of the engine subsytems, and both the auto and manual transmissions were changed as well.

As for eyelids most people use adhesive vinyl, you can get scraps from a sign shop for next to nothing.
