Pondering an alternative..
I'm from New York, Long Island to be exact.. And its frustrating to have to wait for a car when you have a car thats ready to die.. (Its a 95 Neon) I am one of the few people who had the opportunity to pick a car based on merit, and not price, and the SRT-4 definitely merits a serious look. But due to the games, delays, dealer lies, etc.. I am seriously considering the 350z or Lexus IS300 Obviously those cars aren't the fastest, but they do both possess the one thing that is lacking with the SRT-4.. Rear Drive, which was the one compromise I made for this car. ANYWAY, I wanted to give you guys some information if you are worried about losing your deposit if you cannot get an SRT-4.. First of all, if you did a pre-order, or placed an order.. most of the documents state you will be sold the car at MSRP, thats a good thing, it means you will get the car for MSRP, no more, NO LESS, so be careful if you discover any sort of rebates or discounts. ALSO, you CAN get your deposit back if you did this.. The paperwork has no stock number, VON (Vehical order number), or VIN. Now keep in mind you gave your deposit in good faith, but if you look at the paperwork (it will be different depending on the state your in) It basically says they have to get you a car within 30 days of your deposit, technically it means that you can back out and get your deposit back. This is just to point out that the dealer may attempt to keep your money if you want to walk away or use a different dealer. He cannot do this because the contract you signed when you left the deposit is not binding without a car, or order number, etc.. Also If you can, place your deposit with American Express, if your dissatisfied with anything, you can take it up with AMEX and they will get your money back.
Thats the great thing about pre-orders, Their technically not allowed to take a deposit on a car that does not exist, if your deposit is considered a 'placeholder' you can get a refund to give up your place in line to recieve a car. Unfortunately thats all these deposits are is a 'place on line' unfortunately not everyone will get a car.
I've said this in the past, make sure the dealer is a five star, and the dealer sent SALESMEN to the SRT training, not mechanics, thats a different training course. The reason you want to use a fivestar dealer with training is first, you will know that some vehicles will be allocated to fivestar dealers, and dealers with trained employees will see cars first.. Second you have RECOURSE, if you are dissatisfied with any of their business practices, you can complain and they will worry about their five-star rating, which is very dear to them, they will do whatever they can to make you happy.. Ask for the customer satisfaction card whether or not you get a car...
