Dang! Did you cut the heat shield or try and get it off without cutting it? 6 Hours?? Thats a long time :eeeek:
I really need mine to arrive dammit. Ill get mine done in 5.75 hours because i wont get out from under the car to pee.
There Was One Bolt That Came Crossthreaded From The Factory . I Had Really Bad Time Gettin It Out. I Mangled The Heat Shield Taking Out.
O2 housings are always loads of fun the first time.

Is there a easy way of doing this?
Power tools, a lift, and experience will make it easier.

paying someone 50-100 bux to do it! lol I honestly dont think I will ever do it again... unless u baught me a 12er of coronas! :readclose
I payed some poor sap at a local exhaust shop to do it. Took him 4-5 hours and he tried charging me 70 bux. I felt real bad cause I saw him really struggling to get it right. (he didn't know what he was in for I don't think) so I gave hime $175. best money I ever spent.
It's really not that bad after you've done if a few times! I've done the O2 housing on my car about...4 times. lol The first novice install cost me 100 bucks at my buddies shop...I didn't complain. :)

The only PITA is the bottom heat shield which was thrown in the garbage the first time I did it. After that it's a piece of cake. The shield is the only thing that really gets in the way and is a pain to take out. No problems after no bottom heat shield after 25k miles. :)
If you have a S3 O2 housing it's a different story, you have to undo the exhaust brace to get to the last bolt and thats another PITA. If you get S3 it gets worse basically. :)
BTW what O2 housing did you get? A random one off of ebay sounds a bit iffy. Make sure it has the exhaust mani support and stuff...or you may be shopping for a new head cyl in the future.

omg 6 hours dang bro thats why i payed for mine it took only 2hrs but pretty expensive lol:rofl: .
It also took me about six hrs the first time.
takes about an hr for me. doing most of the work from up top simplifies life.
It took me 12 hours to do the last one i did...........one of the nuts from the manifold decided to take half the stud with it so it ended up basically being a turbo/mani swap(not litterally). I tried everything you could think of to take the stud out without taking the manifold out and it wouldn't budge. I even welded a nut on the end of it and the stud just broke of closer to the mani. Once it was out i had to machine the rest of the bolt out and make a new stud for it. I ported the turbo while it was out also. Then worst part about the whole ordeal was the maxfabb o2 housing that we were putting in, one of the flanges on it was welded crooked so the downpipe wouldn't line up with the rest of the exhaust so we ended up putting the stock o2 housing back in. What a nightmare that was..........
It Is The Polished One , And Yes It Had The Mount For The Lower Bracket. Your All Right , With Out A Lower Heat Shield It Can Be Done I Alot Less Time... It Was Worth It Though
Hmmmm. I wonder why they even bother to install heat shields in the first place? Probably to protect things from melting or frying, but then again, what do they know? :stab:
all i can say is GOD DAM!!! right now i am exhausted from trying to get the lower heat shield off. I planned on having the whole stock exhaust system out by lunch. BUT this dam lower heat shield is the biggest PITA. Right now my srt has half the lower heat shield out, tomorrow i am gonna make that thing beg for mercy. I have a 3" O2 housing and 3" TBE going on and can't wait to hear it. But yea i am gonna run with no lower heat shied which i hope is alright. I just modded my scoop so it flows more air back to the turbo and i got a ceramic coated top heat shield to go on.

Lower Heat Shield = :domo:
Now that im thinking about it, maybe the shop i went to didnt put my sheild on when i took off the 50 trim and it wont take me all that long. i havent bothered to look.

An hour?? I have one to do. Wanna show off on your O2 skillz? I'll give you $30 an hour, but you have to get it done in that hour. Lol
