I keep hearing about this but i have never seen any pics showing the work or listing the items necessary to perform this. I have Mopar coilvoer on the way and I wanted to do this at the same time to avoid that nasty clunk.

from what I understand it is the adhesive they use to install windshields. It dries to a hard rubbery consistency. I just don't know where to buy it and where to put it once I've got it.

I would think that you could pick up some Urethane Windshield Adhesive at Murray's or a NAPA auto parts store..

As to where they are filling the mount, I don't know.

Here's a nice pick of the upper rear mount. There are really only 2 places you can fill.. top or bottom.. take your pick, filling the top seems like it would be pretty easy. Filling the bottom might be considerably harder to do since you might have to pull the strut out, and it seems that doing that might require an allignment afterwards, but this is just speculation.

I would put a little on the top of the strut, then some on the bottm of the top perch, then let them both dry & put a little more on & then install when its still wet. (IMO) I was there during the install of my friend's stg3mopars & he had the clunk also.

You know what, in that top mount, there is a rubber "bumper" inside with a steel washer imbeded. There is some space between the rubber & the actual frame of the mount You can wiggle it. I bet that is where the play is at. If you screw everything down before you put it in the car, secure the bottom & grab the mount, you can push pull & feel the play.

This rubber bumper is actually part of the upper mount? If I ordered a new upper mount it would come with it?

So, you think that people are filling in the the bottom of the upper mount with urethane windsheild adhesive to take up the space around the bumper in an attempt to remove the side-to-side play?

that sounds right.

I just got back from the automotive paint and body supply store with a tube of 3M Window Weld Super Fast Drying Urethane Adhesive. THis stuff is suppossed to be the best so we shall see. I think I will take the suspension apart tonight so that way it has a few days to dry until the coilovers arrive. I'll take some pics and post as I go.

Niobium- the top of 13 and the bottom of 14

The area I am speaking of is inside the strut mount. Look through the hole in the mount that threaded shock mount goes through, you will see a steel washer. That washer is mounted in rubber. There is a gap between the rubber & the strut mount "casing". If you could inject something in there I bet that would fill the void & keep it from jiggling around in there.

13 is just a dust cover for the strut, it's made of plastic (or rubber) and I doubt that putting anything on it would do much..
I think that srt4geezer is probably closer to the actual cause..

sorry I just took a quick look at it & assumed it was the top of the stage3 mopar coilovers, becuz thats the only time I ever heard of the "clunk" was when we instald the stg3's on my friends SRT. Anyway, thats where the 4 of us decided to put the silicone. I dont know about the stock setup like your diagram indicates.

It's cool...

I mean, it really doesn't seem to make a difference what kind of struts are on the car. Seems that people are getting the clunk no matter what.

Hopefully, nader has some luck with filling the bottom of the mount. Could fix the problem for all of us.

I am in the process of removing the rear suspension and should have it completed this morning. I am taking pics along the way.

ok, here's what I have so far. I have filled one side. The window weld tacks up in about 15-20 minutes so you have to work somewhat quickly. After inspecting the upper mount this noise make perfect sense. When I was involved heavily with Ford Focus aftermarket people would co,plain about the same thing when switching over to stiffer dampers. The solution: someone on the Focaljet discussion board made a Delrin insert that fit tightly inside the upper rubber mount and therefore eliminated any free play. On the SRT-4 it's not quite as easy but someone could make multiple small inserts that could be stuffed in the empty space taken up the slop. I also took some pics below.
