i think it might be time to change the pads

ive got almost 40k miles and i havent done anything to my brakes yet. i was looking at the pads with the wheels on the other day, and noticed that my passenger side front bad has noticably less pad left than the drivers side. both rear pads look the same. should this be something to worry about? the car seems to drive and brake just fine, with the exception of maybe a tiny bit of rotor warpage.

also, which pads does everyone change to? im looking for the absolute quietest pad there is. i dont care about anything else honestly, if these things make noise im going to be mad. i hate stupid little noises that shouldnt be there.

for the past couple years, i have noticed that the stock brakes do make some noise. its hard to explain, its not a squeek, but a metal on metal noise that almost cant be heard. if you shut the car off while braking (i have quite a bit of exhuast work done) then you can hear it pretty clearly. my buddy's 05 does the same thing, which makes me think its normal. anyone else ever hear this noise?

The stockers do make a lot of noise. At my old house, I would manually pull my car out of the garage and let it roll down the driveway...when I would press the brakes I was actually pretty suprised of the loud "metallic" sound as you described.

I would like to know how you know when and what to upgrade to..too^^^^^^^^^
The pad difference side to side is probably the caliper slide gumming up on the side with more pad causing reduced braking effort on that side. That in turn overheats and probably warped the other side. Another possibility is a stuck piston in the caliper but not as common.

You need to make sure you get the slide good and clean and well lubed when servicing them. Would also replace the rotors at this point to eliminate that problem as well. Which pads are the quietest not sure but Wagner ThermQuiet pads are generally pretty good.
oe, or over-the-counter stuffs at the auto parts store will be the quietest.

anything with a performance aspect/aggressive compound will produce noise...preactically no exceptions to this. even more noise when hot.
all four pads and drilled/slotted rotors for 205 ish shipped ... www.r1concepts.com.

are you running this setup? know anyone that is?? i thought i heard to stay away from slotted rotors. but, this setup is actually cheaper than the oem parts.
the title of this thread confused me a bit, i thought it was that time of the month for you:paranoid:
My back brakes lasted 50K and fronts im changing today at 60k.

im sure mine would have lasted that long if it wasnt for that one pad being worn down so much. im sure its just gummed up or something like was mentioned here before. now im just trying to decide whether or not to go with that drilled and slotted set for less money than it would be to just change my front rotors and front and back pads buying oem parts.
rears seem to go first. One friend with a 03 had his rear go at 13000

how about this: i trust my life & the welfare of my passengers with the components that i know will work.
