 Yes.. I hate to say this but I bailed.. I bought the Distant Japanese cousin, Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VIII.... Its a bit frustrating to get the runaround here in the northeast about delivery dates, allocation, and the fact that there are no official orders for these cars, so the bigger your deposit, the higher in the line you get at a dealership. I am getting a deposit refund and purchased the EVO instead. I still love the SRT-4 for its bang for the buck.. The EVO is like 10k more and only marginally faster, but my car finally took a crap, and I need to get something quickly. Take care everyone. I'll probably have the car in 2 weeks..

So what your saying is, you don't know when your getting the Evo for sure, either. Right? Sounds like you're setting on a undefinite date again.

I guess I'm gonna have to start treating people like shit so I can fit into the stereotype

Seriously though, it's no skin off my nose for others to decide on a different ride for themselves. I wish them well and thank them for their contributions to this forum :)

Official Delivery Date..

Not only did I place my EVO order, but recieved a VIN#, VON#, Stock# and a delivery date of Feb 28 or Mar 1.. When I went to cancel my order with Dodge, they had no record of any SRT Orders at all in the computer. So take all of your "Pre order" promises with a grain of salt.. The dealer seemed very bent that I cancelld my order, he asked "So, why did you decide to cancel" I told him it was taking too long to get a car, or even a VON# for a car. He then asked what I got intead, I said a Mitsu EVO 8, he seemed really twisted at that point.

Take care all! I'll let oyu know how quick the little bugger really is.

Nothing against the SRT, but if you had the money for an EVO in the first place, why did you ever consider an SRT?

Bang for the buck.. It isn't always how much you spend, but how smart you spend. The SRT-4 is definitely the best dollar value out there if you wan't a quick little car. I really like the EVO for its all wheel drive, and would probably have stuck with the SRT-4 if it had AWD, or the EVO was only FWD. The car I originally wanted was the Lexus IS300, however you'd have to sink another $10k into it to make it quick, but it was RWD...
I'll keep you all updated.. I suspect that performancewise, the SRT-4 and the EVO are real close, the advantage being AWD in the EVO.

DONT let everyone treat you like s**t, i am tired of waiting and they are probably taking it out on you guys. i know how you feel i am getting tired of waiting, the run around, the unanswered questions, the stupid a** dealers and their even dumber salesmen. i have thought about bailing on the srt, but i think i can hold out for a while. if i have to wait until SUMMER then i might join you guys, but for now i will wait.
enjoy your rides.

Actually nobody has treated me poorly at all.. I'm a major Mopar fan, always had them, but I'm not generally a brand whore so I'll buy what suits my tastes. I can tell you that if you guys want an EVO8, there are only 4500 of them, and no comments on whether more will be brought over. Mitsubishi is redesigning the lancer for 2004 so both cars will probably be unique. But here's the facts.. the SRT-4 is selling for MSRP, no less.. and thats always been chrysler policy, dealers have gouged customers in the past, and they don't want that.. so they've made it clear that the dealers risk losing their fivestar and sales leader status. But the truth is, if you didn't query a dealer through the internet, there's no "papertrail" and its possible you may get nailed with "Dealer Installed Options" such as a $2500 CD Changer (which is really $300) or $3000 Pinstripe/paint accents.. so be careful. The EVO is definitely getting marked up.. its a $28.5k car to begin with, and I've seen markups ranging from $2000 to $6000 depending on the availability and competition of dealers in the area... I personally am paying $2500 over, which I am willing to live with because I'm getting the first black car, of the first shipment of cars coming to a sales leader dealer, which means I'll have one of the first cars in NY.. No guarantees, but its documentation. I did get that ugly ass carbon fibre spoiler.. But the low OZ Rally spoiler was an option and the first shipment were with the big fin..

Let me add that You guys haven't technically lost me to the dark side.. I may have gotten an EVO.. but I do also still have my 1970 Dodge Dart, a GM Car, 1978 Malibu race car (if you want to see pics, e-mail me), and a 1995 dodge Neon SOHC.. and I decided to keep the old neon, fix the slushbox, CV Joints, and rebuild the motor.. Oh, and I plan on getting a Hahn Racecraft stage4 kit for the SOHC neon.. I plan on letting my girlfriend race it.. so honda owners can get beaten by a Girl in a girlie car..

I am an engineer, and a specialist in this field, so I do plan on continuing to offer my input if you guys want it. Feel free to e-mail me with technical questions or ask them on here...

well, its nice to see that you will still be around. i am sure you will enjoy the evo. and whats wrong with the carbon fiber spoiler? :p

i heard that the lancer will now be a hatchback, following the success of the peugot. they said this will be the last year for the sedan look of the evo and lancer.
