Here you go. If you see an error let me know and I'll edit. This outta be a sticky.

- remove passenger tire
- remove inner fender plastic
- remove the large bolt from the lower mm and swing mm down outta the
way
- remove air intake and battery
- loosen the clamp on the intercooler pipe at the turbo
- remove the 2 bolts oil cooler mount, don't take off hoses there is coolant
in the lines. Take shim gasket off and put away for safe keeping
- remove the 2 bolts holding the intercooler hard pipe on the motor
- remove the hard intercooler pipe after loosening the clamp on the soft
intercooler hose
- remove the brackets that hold the tranny to the block on the driver side
of the pan, there are several layers of fasterers and brackets both on the
side and bottom. untill all the 10mm oil pan bolts are exposed
- remove the oil pan bolts
- take off pan and see the bal assy right there.
- undo the 4 bolts that hold on the square passenger side access plate and
take of the plate. You will see the chain.
- Use a dremel or other to file down one of the pins on the chain.
- Use a screwdriver to pry apart the link and pull apart.
- Rotate the chain around the nylon gears to remove.
- Voila!
- I reused the oil pan gasket. Be sure to wipe down all the mating surfaces.
- Reverse the order to reassemble.
- You just made free power! The best of all!

Cool! Any vibration? I am assuming that you are running non-stock engine mounts.
I have Rex inserts in the car,so it was buzzing a little already so it's probably masking the bal shaft harmonics.

You must be one of those Mopar infiltrators we've been hearing about and no there was no tree in the garage.

Seriously, there are several in depth posts in perf mods and hi tech mods that go into a lot of detail about bal shafts. This post is about doing it once you've made you mind up to do it and helping guys/gals giturdun!

You are the Man Mario. I will be doing this in the nest week or so.

So you dont need to plug the oil hole?
No need to plug anything as the assy is still in place with oil passing thru just as before.

the srt-4 makes so much mad power that the balance shaft chain ends up breaking and then causing big problems. oh yeh, this is something to worry about when youre in 400hp land.

Hey mario.. How much does the chain weigh? I'm assuming you only remove the chain?

Maybe a pound........but if you take out the shaft assy that would be a "significant" weight savings. Follow the how to and unbolt the assy and plug 1 oil port with a 5/16 plug.

But then when I go autocrossing all the oil sloshes away from the pickup and I toast a bearing :) I would need to add a windage tray I would imagine, but not sure how much they weigh...

w/o the shafts you can add up to 7 qts of oil. The p/u will immersed big time. I'm not pushing the idea just letting you know.
