I've spent a dollar, maybe two, on parts.
My invoices (parts only, the only labor cost was $125 to get a spoiler painted. Does not include fluids/filters.):

I've never had that happen to me, I keep them more as a record of purchase. I started a tiny one for my Neon that I just bought, I've already spent almost 2 grand on that car.
