My friend has a WRX and he use to have his stock RE-92 tires on it. He said they sucked and they had a horrible reputation. I was wondering if the guys at PVO also put shitty tires on their cars (srt-4).....So are they good or not?

First I would have gone with some wider wheels (and if I had the car that would be one of the first things I would do), because 6 inches is just too skinny for all that power!

Stock tires on srt4 are Mich. Pilot Sports. Also stock tires on Viper, Porsche, and a number of other high end sports cars. They are the best performance tire without melting away like competition tires, and they are very expensive.

I learned this lesson the hard way when I had to replace one that developed a sidewall bubble...

They couldn't go with a wider tire because of clearance issues. There is some law that says a tire must be X distance from any part of the car when you are goin lock to lock. All manufactures that sell cars in the US have to follow this guideline. This is the reason we only have 6" rims with 205's on it!!

Hmm wonder if my 17" wheels off my eclipse 1st gen would fit on the SRT-4......The bolt pattern is 5 lug 45 mm offset I think for my eclipse. Whats the SRT?

actually if you look online at tirerack.com.. the michelin pilot sports that are on the SRT run 197$ kinda pricey but I hear that is what is used on mercedes..etc. 8)

Yes and subaru coulda put good rubber on there car but they didn't.
A 1" of width makes no differance without the rubber to back it up.

Maybe 7" on the RS of old but the new WRX and RS wheels are 6.5 " wide.

Just curious JC are you planning on buying a SRT 4 ? You sure seem to like to keep comparing everything to Subaru about the SRT 4. Do you like to stir up trouble and controversy or do you have something valuable to add ?

I think that the problem with those is that "too much" of the rubber sticks to the road. Not enough rubber hangs around on the tire for very long.

One never knows. I should be getting another car in a year or two. I'm interested to see how the SRT-4 holds up and what the resale value is like.
