Hello -

I purchased a harness from The Retrofit Source, once installed, I fired up the headlights & noticed that my high beam is now low, & the low beam is now high. I emailed Matt @ TRS & was told this:

This is usually the case if the car uses an atypical "ground switched" setup. It's a pretty easy fix though, you need to reverse the order of the 3 wires/pins inside the blue plastic socket.
Does anyone have an idea on how to pop the wires safely out of the blue plastic socket? What if I get them mixed up, will the headlights blow up?

what is the harness for? Did you get HIDs or something?

As for how to get them out without damaging them, look at the clip and see if there is any part that looks like it slides off. I am thinking of kind of like the fuel pump installation where you have to slide the wires off the stock clip and put the new ones in. It might be something like that.

I have the same harness awaiting install once I receive my lights. Once you figure out the wires, you could just cut and solder with heat shrink on the backside of the connector somewhere.

Hello

Your harness just has the wires reversed. Use a small flat head screwdriver (eyeglass repair type) and push down on the metal tabs inside the connector while gently pulling on the wire and you can reverse the wires and swap them without cutting. You only want to switch the two wires on the left and right side of the connector. Leave the wire in the middle alone. That's your ground. When looking at the wiring from the stock connector, purple is for low beam and red is for high beam. Once you switch your wires from your harness, your low and high beams should work as normal.

Sometimes the low beam wire is Blue (instead of Purple) on some harness's but the Red is always the high beam & like Matt said, the Black is your ground. It's pretty simple, just take your time & don't get frustrated. Sometime they pop right out & other times you'll be fiddleing with it for a while.

Matt thank you so much for the help! Everything is is working order now. I had to end up clipping the white/red wire but the doide installed everything works normal! The previous diode must've been either a dud or installed the wrong way, because it works now with the new one!

Nick
Easy fix, sounds like the diode needs to be re-installed. Maybe the harness manufacture put it in backwards in the first place (or atleast thats what it sounds like)

but yeah I guarantee its the diode.

You need to re-install it between the white and blue wire that goes to the 9007 socket. Make sure the current flows from the blue wire into the white wire (but not the other way around) - a diode is like a one way road. The stripe should be closer to the white wire.

If you cant reuse the original one, you can easily pick up another diode at a radio shack store for 1-2 bucks. You need a "1N5404" diode.

Hope that helps, sorry bout the trouble Nick.

Check that too. Was an issue with some of the harnesses back in the day when I was messing with them.

.:update:.

I switched the right & left wire on the HID harness but left the middle wire alone. The high is still low & vice versa. I did that one more time but no dice. Any other ideas?

I know on the harness I have the blue and white wires need to be switched and the brown needs to be left alone. From another thread, posted by Ralphyc:

I'll report back with what colors I see. Ive switched the left & right wires but they're still backwards. I left the middle one alone though because that's ground?
