This is kinda weird, but often lately when I go to start the car, I push in the clutch and put the other foot on the brake pedal. Instead of feeling normal, the brake pedal is rock hard! When the car starts, the pedal drops back to normal feel.

Anyone else have this problem or know what the deal is?

I would look at it like this...take any car....with the car off....pump the brake....it gets stiff as can be, but with the engine on, feel remains normal.
It may be something, and it may be nothing.

My civic used to do the same thing, from time to time.
hope this helps

The problem you refer to is from the power brakes, it's not a problem, it's just that you're trying to make a machine move that isn't running (i think), so you deal with additional unreleased pressure against you...

The power brakes work on vacuum, so when your car sits for a while not running, the vacuum that was in the system bleeds. So it feels like "manual" brakes.

And before the scientific types get on me, air actually bleeds into the system, which was at partial vacuum when you shut off the car..
