So I'm on my way to get the condensation in my fog lights looked at, and I get nailed for doing 66 in a 45. I was in a pack of cars all doing the same thing so I guess it was the RED one that was guilty.

AnyFingway....

So now I have 2 questions.

1. Do I go with The Ticket Clinic or driving school?

2. What is a very good radar detector?

radar detectors only work part of the time. It won't help you with laser (if the cops aiming at you) and if they are pacing you forget it. I wouldn't spend a lot of money on one. Passport still makes a top of the line model but I don't think its worth the bucks ($295). Smart driving is your best defense, but sometimes s#!t happens and you just have to deal with it. The red one always gets nailed!

Go to court plead no contest ask for no points the Judge will give you a fine and drop the points. Thats all the ticket clinc does. Make sure to have a good story together of like it was a new car I didn't even realize how fast i was going. Some sort of BS. They usually won't even ask but I went for a 95 in a 55 coming back from Key west and told the Judge I was running through a Breakin process and that i didn't worry about it because it was 2 in the morning and there were no cars approaching. She was cool and dropped the fine. I gave the Women cop who gave me a ticket about a ten minute speech about how they are just politicans (many blood sucking ticks) riding in police cars. It made me fell better about the 266 dollar ticket. Then I almost got creamed by a red light runner just 4 miles later in Homestead to bad they were down the road laundring money from unexpecting drivers. Thank god for radar detectors other wise it would of been 125 in a 55.

Thanks for the info. Why would you choose school over ticket clinic deal? If you win in court, your record is clean, if you go to school, doesn't it stay with you?

Just wondering.

either way here in FL if you go to school or court its on your record. Ticket clinic = school so just study your options and please remember unless you win/its thrown out your record still shows it. BTW what measurement device was he using (Radar, Laser or VASCAR)?

First of all go to the clinic/court. Always fight tickets. Not sure about FL, but in DE, if the cop issuing the ticket is NOT present for any reason, the ticket gets tossed!! If they are pricks about it, then you be a prick. Since they used laser on you, ask when the last time it was calibrated and you would like a copy calibration papers. Lasers have to be calibrated every so often so they are always in spec. Not sure what the time frame between calibrations is in FL, but if the gun is past due for it's testing the ticket is tossed. IF they can't provide papers on it's testing, the ticket gets tossed. Just some ideas!!

Man i could get myself out of that fairly easy just simply because we all know although Radar technology has come along way its still far less accurate than Laser and hell even VASCAR is more accurate. I have been cited using those three forms of measurement and i will tell everyone if you get Laser tagged or average by VASCAR just take your ticket and go pay it. One recommendation i would make to everyone is to look into Pre-paid legal services which would come in very handy for such an event as this.

If you have been cited via Laser or VASCAR and wish to fight it here in FL make sure you are very prepared. If you were VASCAR-ed make sure all the officers involved (in the plane) are present, if 1 isnt you win. If you were tagged by Laser and the gun is not calibrated according to regulations, you win. But i cannot stress it anymore than i already have, if you ARE going to fight it be very prepared , calm and polite.

Paul go to Best Buy pick yourself up an Escort 8500 (buy the plan too), go to your local Clerk of the Court to setup a court date/make an election to go to school and in the meantime consider a good counter defense. What i would suggest you do for your court date is to be well dressed, address everyone involved courteously and come prepared. By coming prepared i mean have facts not here say. If you have witnesses bring them , if you have pictures or anything that you feel will help you bring it.

A good way to start off when you are given your turn is to say "Your honor ive been driving for X years and as my driving record shows (you better have a clean one!) im not one to go out and purposefully endanger myself or others by being reckless..." then move onto what speed you believe you were doing and why. If you lived closer i could help you fight it but im up here in Tampa Bay. Luck

When you get your 8500 read the oiwners manual you will be blown away at what you paid for. My friends ask me what i would recommend and the first two and only two are the Escort series aswell as the V1. Tell me what you think after the purchasde and you becoming aquainted with it.

Nothing is foolproof (as mentioned about laser and VASCAR) but the Valentine One is your best defense against radar, bar none. Read the reviews in Car and Driver over the past 5 years or so -- The Valentine smokes the others every single time, by a very wide margin.

I have a Valentine One without the laser detector (yes, it's that old) and it has saved me many, many times. Believe me, it's worth the investment if you have a heavy foot.
