im having a problem with my overflow tank. when the coolant flows into the tank it just builds up until it dumps itself out onto everything and it happens most under hard braking. what could be the problem and how do i fix it

You do not want to know.....

It could be as simple as some air trapped in the system, or even that you have too much in the system to begin with, hope for that. When mine did that it was a bad head gasket....if it sounds like a popcorn maker after driving it for a while when you shut it off or when you first start it after it has sat and the exhaust smells sweet, you need a head gasket.
I had an over flow problem. replaced my radiator cap 5.99 at napa fixed the problem.I'm running under 200 degrees and no over flow.
I had the same problem... The overflow plastic tank melted and the fire start after that also! The liquid plastic drop on the exhaust system and bingo... FIRE! I don't know why DaimlerChrysler never recall that major problem and put a no-charge back-up stainless steel tank replacement to fix it? :flame:

That doesn't really indicate bad head gasket. It's normal to get some afterboil after a hard run and shutdown, and if it overlows your coolant bottle you're going to smell some coolant. The only way to tell for sure is a block test for exhaust gases in your cooling system.
no it foesn't sound like a popcorn maker but it just overflows and don't flow back into the radiator and how do i go about doing a block test for exhaust gasses in the cooling system
are you sure you arent low on coolant furthermore did you use the correct coolant dont you know that our cars use a certain type of coolant which is different from other cars correct?
Well, passing 200F the stock overflow box start to sound like a popcorn can and the pressure become so hard it pop the yellow door of the overflow box and the coolant start to bleed on the hot exhaust pipe... The result is a big smoke and engine bay fire! We have the same problem with the over heat of the power steering fluid... When it's start to bleed, watch out for fire! :flame:

NAPA sells a block test kit for 20-30 bucks. A big penis pump looking thing you suck in air from your thermostat housing with, and if the liquid inside turns yellow you have exhaust gasses in your cooling system.
