I found the fix for the code P1187 (Oil temp low volt). Go to the dealer, or your local Auto Parts and tell them that you need an oil temp switch/sensor ( 24 bucks). It will look like this:

The sensor is located on the bottom of the Turbo. I hope this helps!!

Bringing this back up from the dead, can anyone else confirm this fix?

I have searched for hours for the 1187 code and there is a lot of conflicting information on what causes this code. I have this code on a stock '05. I'll try replacing this and see if it fixes it. Anyone else get this code, replace this sensor, and the code does not return? Would like to hear from others thanks.

I found another fix for this code.... I first got it when I went DW 650 injectors, 3bar map/tip, rescaled tune... would come and go intermitantly, forever....

Recently went back to stock injectors, stock map/tip, stock tune, no P1187... fixed!

Couple months ago I got the 0340 code so I put a Camshaft Position Sensor in from rockauto.com, its was a Standard Ignition part, the most expensive one they had, car ran perfect with the new sensor. Then after sitting one day it was very very hard to start and was missing badly and I got 1187 and 0340 codes. When I would clear the codes with a scan tool the 1187 would come right back as soon as I would turn the ignition to the run position without starting. I put a new Mopar Camshaft Position Sensor in, cleared the codes, now no codes and no check engine light, car runs like a champ. Prior to this I still had all the original sensors. Car currently has 42,000 miles on it and is all stock.

I had p1187 come up several months ago.

I replaced the sensor and it went away. Now p1187 popped up again!

Old thread, has anyone else have this issue with CEL p1187? I replaced the sensor some thousand miles ago and it went away.

After I installed my bigger turbo kit with fuel components (no return line or 3 bar map sensor) it returned. I'm betting it's on because of having no tune at the moment. I scheduled a day for tune on the 17TH. I'll update whether or not CEL is gone. Otherwise, I'll try replacing the sensor again.

First of all, the sensor in the picture in the first post is not the engine oil temp sensor. There is no oil temp sensor on the neon. It is the oil pressure sensor. I don't know the code for when it goes bad, but the oil light should come on.

From my research, the 1187 code is some kind of map/tip correlation problem and tuned cars generally don't throw it.

The P1187 code I got was MAP/TIP correlation. It comes on immediately after clearing it. The car occasionally will "chug" when attempting to use boost, then quit after a few minutes. I replaced the MAP but nothing changed. Otherwise it runs like a top. Mine is a stock 04 except for an AEM cai, with only 71000kms. Would it be the cam position sensor screwing up my timing? It seems to fit.
