Check engine light came on yesterday after washing the car.

Scared the crap out of me when the light didn't go out after turning the car on and moving it not even 15ft from the grass. It's at the dealer now and there running a full diagonostic on it as we speak. Any ideas as to what could've cause the light to come on and stay on? I didn't wash under the hood or get any water near the computer and yes the gas cap is tightened as far as 4 clicks after getting screwed back in. I hope its nothing major. Im still waiting for them to call.

I think it means your car is too clean. It is now in Sweetness Mode. If you drive it around, the glare from the clean paint job will blind other drivers. Be careful.

Sorry for the non-answer. I'm sure one of the experts will offer some advice. :)
It's to hard to tell without a code!! Did you pull the code?

HAHAHAH Sweetness Mode

What code? I compared the board light to the users manual and it was the check engine light. Unless your speaking of something i don't know about.
Did you wash the motor? I used to pull a code everytime I blasted the motor at a carwash on one of my first gen neons. It usually went away eventually though. I never did check to see the actual code.
nope. I didn't clean under the hood or rinse off the motor or clean it. I just washed the car normally and wiped it dry. Moved it 15ft from the grass to the driveway and finished cleaning the interior and of course glossing the tires :D

Edit: What codes are you people refering to? Please tell me before i go nuts!

If you put your key in the ignition and turn it to the on position (without actually starting the car), then off, back on, then off, and back on again you will see the trouble code in the digital readout where you odometer is.
Crimson,

Write this down. If the check engine light comes on, you can see the code for the problem. You turn the ignition to the "ON" position, then immediately off, then ON, then immediately off, then ON again. The third time you turn it to ON you'll see a code displayed where the electronic odometer is. It will say something like:

P1188

After the code shows in the display, it will show "done." That's how you read the "check engine" codes. Once you get the code, come on the board and tell what it is and someone will look it up for you.

To late now for me to get the code. The car is at the dealer being checked out. I should be hearing from them pretty soon. But thanks for the input on how to get the codes.
Turns out it wasn't an idiot light like i was hoping. It was a faulty O2 sensor on the air intake system. The one on top next to the hood. Apparently it was cracked and finally gave way to heat and what not. So it had to be replaced and the engine light went away after they reset it. At least it wasn't anything major.
I think you mean intake temp sensor. Thats the only sensor on the intake besides the TIP and MAP. O2 sensors are located on the exhaust side.

Happy boostin

Yeah it was that one. I get them confused all the time. On my truck i blew the 4 O2 sensors on each cat. 2 cats in total.

It means you were making too much BOV sounds while washing the car.
