Car Alarm Question...

1706 Views 18 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  ayat108
What kind of priority are you putting on getting an alarm on your car?? Is it top of the list, middle or something you plan to do at a later time? I'm asking because I've had my car broken into before and it's no fun trying to replace all the stuff you took the time to buy and install not to mention fixing the damage the thieves caused. My situation is kind of different now. I live in a place that has security at night and my car is within seeing distance of the guardshack. Where I work, my car is in my sight most of the day. The chances of my car being stolen or broken into aren't as high now. I'm trying to get some feedback to either convince myself to get one, or to wait until a later time. Thanks.

While I am STILL WAITING for my car to be delivered here, i do have some concerns. I will be trying to put one in, but the lack of space underneath the hood concerns me. from what I have seen there isn't much (if any) room to install anything under there. The control unit my have to be installed in the trunk and extra long wires run to the contact points. i know its going to be tricky.
True. I think a car-alarm would be a very wise investment. A couple friends recommended Clifford. I checked out there site and their stuff looks legit and really good. I'm not familiar with car-alarms so if anyone else has some better companies to choose from, I'd appreciate it alot. However there isn't really a threat here where I am, the highest threat is some street punk trying to jack it unorganized, but I do live near towns and cities that have a high-risk for stealing cars. My uncles brand new 2003 Lincoln Navigator got jacked last week.

I don't know what type of application I would need, so if you're familiar with them shoot me a PM.

Thanks alot.
an added benefit of a car alarm would be it will drastically lower your insurance............
i got a compustar which is made by clifford (i think)

along with protecting the car it also has a 2 way pager that allows you to view the status of the car and if the car is shut off in the correct sequence you can then remote start it :) (good for cooling it down in the summer or warming it in the winter).

oh, and it also has a builtin "turbo timer" that runs the car for two minutes after you take your keys out.
i've been looking into getting a crimestopper alarm system (i think i heard somewhere it was made by sony, not sure how true that is though).... anyone heard anything about it? (you can find some features on and and whatnot from www.carmedia1.com ... they have alot of brand name car audio there too) 8)
A car alarm doesn't detur thieves, or do much to secure your car. My buddy has had his car broken into more times than Michael Jackson's nose, and he has a $900 crimestopper.

The only good a car alarm can do is warn you, specially if you have a pager unit; you can find your 9 and bust a cap in the fool.

I forgot about this unit, its probably the only serious alarm system that will any good, next to lojack in my book.

I'm just gonna get one of the 4 button crimestoppers, with window roll down to make the windows a 1 touch. Other than that I don't want or need remote start.

Yeah. I think that's the exact model that my friend has and who recommended Clifford to me. Said it has a built-in TT as well. So I looked for it but couldn't find it because he forgot the model he had. How much was it?
car alarm w/ pager and lojack.
My car is right outside my window at night. Here is my alarm system:

7 Federal Hydrashoks, 2 spare mags. And thats just the one closest to the bed.

This is what I got less than a week after getting the car, along with a couple of upgrades to it.

Clifford intelliguard 8000

Works killer, I have it set so if someone looks into the window it warns them. They don't even have to touch it...
Lol. Daytona is that your new word, 'Killer'? LoL.
Dude I've Been Saying Killer for almost 20 years I think the first time I heard it was when 1984 came out , someone said " You have got to get the new VH album it sounds KILLER" I was 12 or 13 at the time. And yes I got it on Vinal and still have it today.
Lmao.

Grunge, get a two way alarm so you can whoop some ass if someone starts messin with it. What good is an alarm if you don't know it's going off. For me, it's a part I will get just before all the perf mods.
well, i'm gonna look @ alarms monday morn then get it installed tues morn. then tint windows. then replace cd's that i burned & apparently got stolen from...leaving the doors unlocked? no signs of forced entry.
going w a viper system. as learned in another srtforum forum.

**update** 04-29-03. i didnt get the viper, but i got an audiovox Prestige APS-510. I also got a Millenium FX 2wy FM transmitter. $379.50 for everything + install. did anyone else that had an alarm installed have to wait 4 hrs while the installer tried to get the transmitter and alarm on the same page? he was saying something about the odd location of relays on the srt & some other crap. he did a nice job, tho, but something kept throwing him off. took him a while to get it right. wait, not a while, F O U R hours.
