Hey guys I was just wondering. Why do SRT-4's throw so much backfires like that explosion sound that they make when letting off the throttle. I think it sounds really cool, but I was just wondering why it does that. Any answers would be great, thanx.

no muffler = you hear everything
Hey bro I really appreciate your help, but my friend has a '03 and he has a single exhaust with a HKS Hi-Power muffler but you still hear the back fires and he has a muffler, so im guessing its something else. I really appreciate your help though man thanx.

dodge had the pcm prgrammed to due so. when you purchase stage i or II it lists "programmed for diff exhaust note" with fuel and timing control after letting off the gas they can control how loud it makes it burble snap pop and crack. with the power paq you can adjust it to shoot flames with every lift off of the throttle. you can also make it sound like it had large cams in it at idle with cam timing control. pretty kool stuff.

SRT's run pig rich...the sound is caused by a combination of unburned fuel in the combustion chamber and deceleration. If you want to remedy this, get an EMS and change the decel map, although I wouldn't spend money on an EMS for that purpose alone....
I know they run rich my first impression of that was win they run rich, my car is running really rich now i dont have an SRT i have a 1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD and I got a boost leak and its running really rich and its doing the same thing, just those little pops while deceleration is occuring. Well thanx for your response anyways.

I think it does have to do with unburned fuel igniting in the manifold, because when you close the throttle, there's minimal air being brought into the engine, so with little air, the fuel can't burn in the combustion chamber, (or not as much of it can be burned), so when it leaves the combustion chamber it ignites in the manifold and makes that pop.

Could also have something to do with ignition timing as well...

Boost leak= computer sends more fuel= richer mixture= more unburned fuel in combustion chamber= pops! I'm not sure what exactly you are looking for here, but you are more or less answering your own question! Just trying to help...

No I mean I got a boost leak in my car which is a Talon TSi AWD, they dont run as rich as SRT-4's. So, know since my car is running more richer because of the boost leak its starting to do the popping sounds. But I wanted to know why SRT-4's do that popping sound. I know why my car does it and now i pretty much know why SRT-4's do it too (Rich)
