I want to see what everyone is running. Throw in your power figures and if you use slicks at the track or not. I am approaching 400WHP and plan on taking it to the track with slicks. Should I invest on some DSS axles?

I am right around 400whp on 03 axles. M&H slicks, bout 25 passes on the track no break.

I also have s3 suspension and solid LCA's, no wheel hop.

This summer when I up the boost from 20 to 30, I expect to break the axles, only takes one little hop. I plan on upgrading to a 550 or 700 hp axle.

Save your money and just get 04 axels, DSS are nice and all, but I have had nothing but bad problems with them.

2 broken DSS axels in 7 months
0 broken stock (04) axels in 90k miles, just over 4 years.....

I have DSS...

bought them when the stock axles were not available and needed an axle - so far, no issues, but I also switched to solid mm's and I have poly lca bushings - prior to installing both, I had wheel hop and I'm convinced that was what did in my stock axles. I plan on going to stage 3 HP, so we will see. I know I've seen posts where (recently) DSS has been given good reviews. There were definitely some issues in the past. I'd like to know when the poster that had 2 bad DSS axles purchased his, so we can get a bit more info. DSS is the only company that makes SRT-4 axles that are made with components that should be stronger than stock (tripods, etc.) - as with any fwd, wheel hop can kill anything, even DSS.

cost (per axle) is roughly double+ vs. stock cost -
$700 for DSS = $350 per axle vs. ~$150 per axle

It's hard for me to judge what the expectations are for the folks that buy DSS...they are not invincible, so they may feel let down if they break. Not sure. Mine are fine, but I'm stock HP (with a few mods), drive sanely for the most part, and wanted an additional margin on the axles (I HATE doing things twice and I've replaced stockers twice)

you make one point stronger on your tranny, itll transfer the damage to another weak spot.

stock axles are extremely cheap, and really strong.

id suggest keeping the stock axles and stock shift selector (instead of the billet). letting other parts of your tranny take the damage will = $$$$

This is extremely true. Now if you have wheel hop or a hard launch, your axles won't break. Something else is now getting the abuse, mainly the transmission.

Dummy... you have a huge supply of stock axles at your fingertips all the time... why pay for DSS axles that will probably last just as long as 1 or 2 sets of stock axles.

Unless you're out there spinning on ice, etc. Then they're fawked either way.

DSS has fixed the problems they had with the axels. It was a mesurment problem where the axel dident fully seat into the tranny. Most failures were due to stripped splines.

I just wanted to see what others were running and how reliable it was. Plus you know how I hate paying that nebraska tax.

Well, I am glad for this thread! I was going to spend the money on these axles... looks like I don't need to bother, just get a set of 04/05!:clap:

You know my answer I believe. Stock 04/05 axles FTW. You know I have done 1 to 2 track days per month this past year all on slicks, and still no breakage yet. From what I have read of the DSS one they will still break. So why spend more money on them so they can break and then you have to rebuy them again. Just buy the stockers again for less than half the cost of the DSS and save yourself some money. Remember, I looked into this late 2005 because of upgrading to slicks before you did and I went through like every thread on the board about breaking axles. I got the same responses that you are getting now. 04/05 axles > DSS axles

I know your story Scott. I was just doing some research. I was looking for people 400WHP and up running slicks at the track.

Well, you can ask Jeff (Caleb-SRT) after tomorrow. :) He will be going to the track and running slicks. He has to be pushing close to that hp level since he is trapping like 119 mph.

I've broke 2 driver side stock axles, stripped splines on 1 pass. side stock axle, and broke a center bar on a pass. side DSS axle. DSS said that shouldn't have happened and even though they were out of warranty they sent me a brand new axle. So far they have been holding up fine launching on slicks at 5k rpm. The 2 broken stock axles was due to wheel hop. I've put the dss axles through alot of wheel hop on the stock turbo without a problem. I don't really get wheel hop with the 50trim on there so I don't guess thats an issue any more. Either way I'd recommend DSS axles for piece of mind.

im above 400hp on stock 04 axles and i havent had any problems but honestly i think it all depends on the way you drive... your asking about slicks sso obviousally not really daily driving related but i reccomend buying 2 pairs of stock 04/05 then 1 pair of DSS...
