Ok. I am running infinity perfect 6.1 in the front, and the infinity kappa 6.9s in the rear. Infinity 7540a to drive them all .... its 111w x 4 at 4 ohms.

Problem is ... I get clipping. Rears are fine, in fact I have the LPF turned on and the gain down quite a bit(they just there for a tiny amount of bass filler)
Its the fronts. I can not get those bastards as loud as I want them. With out clipping anyway. I've tried more gain and lower volumes. Lower gain and higher volumes. I've tried singing a lullaby everynight before I go to bed. I just cant please my AMP, my fronts, and myself at the same time.

So my question. Do I look for a another amp? If so, any suggestions? Will a crossover help at all ... if I boost the line level signal before the amp? Won't this make it sound bad or atleast put it on the fast track to distortion and such?

Any suggestions you can offer I appreciate it.

wow i'd think that'd be enough power to make those speakers play plenty loud... maybe something else is going on??

i know where he is coming from. i had 400 watts going to my old alpine type R's, and they were rated at 40 watts rms :eveilgrin i'm going to be sending my new DLS components about 840 watts

Dont get me wrong ... they are loud ... just not loud enough for me ... Its like one or two clicks of the volume knob to be perfect ... I try to turn it up to that perfect volume and the damn thing starts clipping.

I dont get it though ... they are 100w(RMS) at 4 ohms .... that amp should be plenty?

just cause that's the rms does not mean that's how much they need to get loud. keep in mind that with more power you will have to raise the high pass filter to a reasonably higher frequency.

I'm not an infinity person, is the 6.1 a coaxil or component. If coax then i would just look to get a component set. The rears will outpower them even if you have the gain turned lower.

Got wake got your amps and comps installed yet?

give it another month, at least :( i'm working on the long process of running wires and sound dampening/deadening. i spent 7 hours saturday working on my passenger door. got some 12 gauge and 14 gauge run into the door via the stock boots, and then i put on 3-4 layers of dynamat and some sound insulation
 it makes a nice solid "thud" when you knock on it :eveilgrin

Nice. How much weight do you think the deadner weighs?

Jimi i run that set of speakers exactly. And i have had OUTSTANDING performance from Audison L series 4 channel amp. This amp pushes only 74 x 4 at 4ohms and teh sound quality is incredible. No pops hiss or anything only crystal clear sound, and those infinities can blow out your ears with the highs. Audison is hand made italian goodness. As for your existing setup you should have more than enough power for those speakers. I would definately check all connections to see if soemthign else is going on. If you figure its your amp, i suggest picking up an audison. You will be one happy camper, i am :hi:
