Can I use other brands other than Mopar for the MTF on my SRT4?

Hello so do you guys recommend me buying specifically Mopar ATF+4 for the gear oil on my Neon SRT4 or is any brand like STP or Castrol fine? Thanks. Also I know a lot of people get butthurted when you post stuff that's already been posted before so feel free to remove this if it's been posted before

Depending on what you've got in there. What year is your car? Mopar ATF+4 is a peace of mind for me...and at is says in the manual--recommended.

Not butthurt but too common of a question given the history. The topic has been discussed many times, which should help you.

Hahaha I was just trolling. And yeah it's a 2005. My trans is probably gonna die soon as its making strange tapping noises when in gear at idle, and yeah before I get it diagnosed I wanna change the gear oil and hopefully that helps which it most likely wont. But yeah who knows I'm hoping it just needs a clutch. Also thanks for the links I'll check em out.

Your strange tapping noises could be loose flywheel bolts. It's been known to happen on these cars.

If the clutch release components, i.e. release fork/lever, etc. are going bad they can also sometimes rattle but usually go away when you depress the clutch. If you're on a stock clutch the flex plate to crankshaft or flywheel to flex plate bolts can also cause tapping noise as mentioned.

As to the ATF+4, quick answer is that for it to be branded as ATF+4 it has to be licensed from Chrysler/FCA. There's only a couple major producers and a lot of them are the same fluid in a different bottle, so buy the cheapest one you can find. For example, the Walmart Super Tech ATF+4 should be an exact equivalent to a bottle with a Mopar label from the dealer.

With 216 thousand miles on my SRT I have used ATF-4 with FM, Amsoil MTF and Pennzoil Synchromesh....Pennzoil has been in for over 120,000 miles and with no problems with smoother shifts especially on cold mornings. My car has ball bearing bushings in the shifter cables and solid bushings at the Hurst shifter........I had to the replace the third gear syncho at 90,000 miles. I also replaced the snap ring and added a third gear extender at the same time..........I like the Hurst shifter because it has a stop so you don't stretch your shifter cable..........
