Not an expert on this.

Some people say that if the senor tip fails and breaks off it could do damage to the turbo if EGT probe placement allows this.

Others say that if sensor not placed properly you will not get a true/good EGT reading in order to tune with. Proper placement is close to the cyl head, and represents the EGT for all cyl's, so you should not put it in one indiv runner.

An option is to install the EGT probe in a place that will get good readings for tuning. make sure you can plug the hole if probe removed. Tune the car, and than remove and plug with correct fitting/cap/plug.

If you want, install the probe in manner which is safe for the turbo incase of probe failure, and accept that the readings are a little less than true and tuning to the limit using or relying on those readings could be risky.

If the EGT gauge is more for looks def place in location that is safer or less risky to turbo failure if EGT probe fails.

Again I'm not an expert and can be very wrong with this.

and he's asking about installing an EGT gauge probe
If it's not a wideband type and just and a/f gauge not a meter reading on it then it'll be fine after the urbo on the hottest manifold pipe is what I have been told-
I assume it's not like a PLX or the other sensors that have 02 sensors that you just replace the second one with this new one for the gauge and xip strip the stock piece out of the way.
Did you try search for egt probe, or in the how to section?
