ok, simple yet complex problems so I'll try to coles notes the story so it makes sense lol.......... here goes
a while back, buddy gets a dtec-fc and we install it on his car.
when the newer fc/bc combo comes out, buddy orders that one, and we work a deal that I'll buy his old dtec once the new one arrives.
upon arrival of the new fc/bc, he unplugs the old "fc" brain, replaces it with the "fc/bc" brain, then wires in the map sensor and the boost solenoid.
well, when he goes to plug the game boy into the new fc/bc connectors, he finds out one of the connectors on the new brain is messed right up, and it won't even plug into the game boy.
out comes the new brain, in goes the old "fc" brain and he goes back to a mbc set up to satiate the time being.
several months pass, and he finally recieves a new "fc/bc" brain from txs, so out comes the "fc" brain, in goes the new brain. as well, out goes the mbc and the map sensor and boost solenoid are re introduced.
well, he can't seem to get the bc portion of the equation to work propperly for some reason. researches up the wazooo, checks and tripple checks all the wiring etc. etc. etc. and winds up stumped. so it's back to the mbc.
next section of the story, which is where it gets a bit complicated.
I finally get his old "fc" setup; however, I come to find out that the "map simulator" also known as the "sensor interceptor unit", is missing from the kit I was sent..... given he'd already had the car wired for the "fc", he simply unpacked the new brain, the map sensor and boost solenoid components, and put the old brain in the box and sent it to me, so I can't install it given I'm missing the map simulator harness.
while initially researching the install on the forums, I came to find out that there was a change up by txs at some point, and the current versions no longer have a "plastic box" midway on the harness for the map simulator and it now consists of just a connector with 2 wires coming from it, unlike the old one with 3 wires into and out of the plastic box**with the un-used, yellow wire**....
so this got me thinking about buddies issues with the boost controller end of things on his new fc/bc............ is it possible the new brain he recieved is programmed to work without whatever resistor/diode/whatever the hell is inside that damn plastic box????? thus, it's tripping out the system?
if so, I could potentially just make him a new harness for his fc/bc by way of grabbing the appropriate molex connector and simply wiring in 2 straight up wires to the pinouts that corrospond with the blue and brown wires of his existing map simulator harness that's currently in his car?
then, I'd be able to take his old harness from the original dtec-fc, which will obviously work fine with the brain I have given they originally belonged together, and I can finally install the thing in my car, and poof, both problems solved
thoughts? advice? help
thanx in advance
