I'm fairly new to the srt and turbo cars in general. I bought my car the way it is and I am still learning. My question is, are my timing readings too high? I am reading timing, knock etc. with the Aeroforce Scangauge. At idle it displays 5-8 on timing advance, then as I cruise or pull a bit, it will go up to the 45-48 range. My mods are listed below
AGP 50 trim
Turbonetics Evolution WG
Mopar/Borla exhaust
Stage 1
750cc Injectors
AEM CAI
255lb walboro pump
DTEC FC
"full race" FMIC
TXS Manual HP BC
Cruising that high is just fine.... it's when the engine is under load that it's very dangerous. I am running 27' of timing advance with a 50 trim at 25psi WITH WATER METH. I've seen knock at 29' of timing with that setup..... I couldn't imagine 50' of timing!!!!!!!!! The reason you're running so much timing is because you're hiding too much boost from your pcm. It thinks your only running like say 5psi of boost when you're actually running a lot more than that. That is why I ended up going with EMS. Tuning with the piggy back, you reach a point where you are only allowed to show the pcm say 15psi before it pulls timing, but you want to run say 23, so hiding 8 psi of boost causes WAYYYYY too much timing. I guess with the AFC, the trick is to make a ton of power without having to hide that much boost..... can get tricky
just get your Fuel pressure so that at redline, you are pulling very little fuel out..
from 5k to 5.5 im only pulling 6% out, then at 5.5 to 6.2 im only pulling 3 - 1 % out. helps the timing not get to ramped up :-D
from what i remember, it is, i'll go do a pull in a bit and let you know. as for knock, it is knocking that is my problem also. This is being read from the aeroforce scangauge
I stand corrected I got my numbers mixed up, I was reading 50* of timing when I was cruising at about 80-85 mph on the highway, is that normal? I did a couple of quick pulls and at WOT it was in the 30's, again is that too high? I read about 6-9 counts of knock at WOT
