Default Looking at AVC-R, advise...please

I am doing a few mods to the SRT. An AGP stage 4 to be exact.

I thought that the AVC-R would really help at the track. Is this a good buy? Or is there something better.....or???

I like the idea of adjusting boost in each gear, to help leaunching and getting her out and moving.

Thanks for your help.

Roman

How good are you at figuring things out on your own?

I used the AVC-R with great success, but the instructions are 100% worthless.

And it takes time to set the AVC-R up so it works well, alot of tinkering with settings to get it "just right."

I think that I'm alright. I would prefer not to at this time, but if it's worth the work I'll be up to it.

Is there a lot to tie it in physically?

Thanks for the reply,

Roman

hey romanss, i have one 2, not installed yet but i got the same setup waiting to be dropped in! but from what i know it was a automap feature that gets u started with a basic map. after that you must do fine tuning i am not really sure i have a few threads open trying to figure out how to use it and to get a basic map! not really any success other then the automap feature that i m not sure about

I'm trying to remember... here's what I'm coming up with as far as wiring goes:

Boost Sensor - 3 wires
Boost Solenoid - 2 wires
Tach Signal - 1 wire
VSS Signal - 1 wire
Power (ignition power) - 1 wire
Ground - 1 wire

So the only thing that needs "tied in" are the Ignition Power, Tach signal and VSS signal, both of which are needed for the Boost by Gear feature. I used the Tach signal from my MSD ignition box, and then tied into the engine wiring harness for the VSS signal.

Thanks guys.

This is what I was looking for.

I assume that I can enable/disable the AVC-R, correct? It looks like there is one unit, so this will work on any turbo car? There isn't a SRT4 specific unit, correct?

Also how do you program it? Do you have to do it real world, or set it up and give it a try.

Forgive me for my questions.

Thanks alot,

Roman

It's universal, no "SRT-4" specific model.

Read the installation instructions carefully. If they haven't updated the instructions since I bought mine, you'll be able to tell that it was translated from another language (not quite as bad as "All your base belong to us" but close).

I would turn off the "auto-learn" and at first work with the duty cycle. Start with 20% and see what the boost is, then maybe do 40%. Keep incrementing until you're boosting what you want in 3rd & 4th gear. Then go back and mess with the individual gear settings (after you setup the gear steps, which you'll need to do driving, follow the instructions the best you can there).

After you get it pretty close to the way you want it, then you can turn on the auto-learn, but only in the gears you want full boost (3rd, 4th & 5th most likely).

IIRC, I had 1st gear auto learn off, with the maximum taken out of the duty cycle. In 2nd gear auto learn off, with about 20-30% taken out of the duty cycle. In 3rd+ auto learn was off and 0% taken out of duty cycle. Base duty cycle was set around 50%. All of this w/ a 15psi WG spring gave me: ~16-17psi in 1st gear (still way too much), 17psi climbing to 19psi in 2nd, and 23psi in 3rd +.
