Default Current Cobalt Owner: Want to know what tuning software SRT4's use

hey guys,

i currently own a cobalt ss... and we have hptuners used as our primary tuning software....but from what i can see hptuners is not supports srt4's as of yet (or are they?)

Most guys here run piggybacks such as an safc2, dtec, etc. AEM offers a standalone for our car and SCT now offers stock computer reflashing. There is no "software" per say that you can just hook your laptop up to your car and tune the computer.

looks like i have some serious learning to do then...i see many really heavily modded srt's ...and i wonder, with all the mods that the car has, how is the car tuned to be able to handle and adapt to them?

like say, the owner changes to the stock turbo for a 50 trim...how would the tune be taken care of?

see the concept you have to understand is that GM uses software that isnt self learning so if you add mods you have to modify the software for the new hardware. The SRT4s software allows the car to continuously adapt based on what it reads from the sensors BUT the catch is it can only do so much. When you reach that point you toss in some form of piggy back or just use a flash type tuner.

Currently option to "tune" and srt4 are:

Piggyback:

map clamp- cheap, unreliable and simple way to make more power
APEXi SAFC ver.1 or 2/Neo-...very widely used yet extremely effective
Greddy Emanage-....not cheap but effective when installed/tuned properly
Turbo XS DTEC-....again not cheap but effective when installed/tuned properly
AEM FIC-...bugs are being worked out but it should prove quite usefull

Flash:

SCT
Diablo Predator (will be out soon)

Standalone:

Electromotive TEC3
AEM EMS
Megasquirt

or

using a Mopar Stage 1,2 or 3 pcm or a custom calibrated pcm from B&G Performance

so, hypothetically speaking - if i were to add in meth injection and nitrous, i could pick up and apexi S-AFC and it would calibrate it from there?

sorry, im somewhat confused as to what a piggyback actually does...do they trick the car's ecu? can i increase timing with the S-AFC?

HPTuners is in the process of making an SRT-4 compatible tuning software. IMO that will blow all the other competition (including the EMS) out of the water. I used HPTuners on my GTP and that software is fucking amazing.

No, SAFC is used to take away fuel at RPM points.

As said above, the SAFC simply removes fuel by "tricking" the ECU. No other parameters can be "tuned" with the SAFC.

Unless you go with an SCT or EMS, there isn't software used to add or take away timing from the SRT PCM.
