Default Anyone looking at hacking the stock PCM?

My last car was a Mustang GT. There was a ton of info on how to hack the factory system. Is there a good reason that the stock fuel maps and timing maps can not be hacked in the existing PCM? Or is it that no one with the ability has tried yet? Is there some technical reason that makes this difficult? The fact that the Dodge service tool can re-flash the PCM would seem to indicate that it is possible.

Is it encrypted? Does the service tool use the standard ODB-II protocol to talk to the PCM or is there more to it?

Sorry for all the questions and no answers

The reason I am asking is as soon as my Stage 2 arrives I will have a stock PCM sitting on my desk here right beside my logic analyzer and scope, and I know I wont be able to resist poking around.

Anyone interested in sharing some info here, maybe a group effort?

My guess it's it's still too new & PCM's aren't cheap. This is an interesting topic none the less & I'm sure only the future will tell...BTW- I had a DSMlink on my old Talon (basically an awesomely hacked ecu) & the can practically tuned it's self when I added new mods. I could raise or lower the boost on my Apexi AVC-R & it would just make the adjustment like it was no big deal...smooth as the stock ECU with all the adjustability of a stand alone...ahhh, the best of both worlds.

There was a post awhile back where a couple computer wizes on here had opened it up and were scratching there heads when trying to fig. out what some of the chips were. Beyond that the stock chip is considered a bitch to fig. out, and with stage 1 and 2 pcms coming out, most people don't seem willing to waist there time.

last i heard was that people were looking at it and that was it, i offered my services and help but nothing was sent my way but an invitation to a list of people who were working on it.

To be honest, piggy backs and stand alones will prob be the way to go.

You may be missing the point here. If the flashed configuration can be figured out and moved between computers, it may very well be possible to take a Stage 1 image and flash it into a stock unit. Heck, if the internal PCM changes aren't that great, it may actually be possible to take many of the best parts of Stage 2 tuning image and put it in the stock pcm. Once you unlock the PCM you can adjust fuel tables for injector changes, boost schedules, etc. Way more potential here than just a Stage 1 or Stage 2...

there are a few places that can reflash the stock PCM...but some legal issues arrived when they were about to release an aftermarket reflash.

Any more info on this? I would wonder what legal issues there would be, unless it is a copyright issue with copying Stage1 firmware completely. As you know, many other manufacturer's computers have plug in aftermarket firmware which ends up being equivalent to re-flashing. Haven't heard of legal issues with doing this.

Anyway, NIVO88T, any direction you can send me to follow up on this?
