Default Aem Uego Problem

I just installed a second hand AEM UEGO. The guy had it on his car just a few months. I followed the HOW-TO for installation. When I turn the car on it does the sweep 111 222 333 etc then does P00 and then ---. It just has 3 dashes on the screen (---). It does not display any numbers. Has anyone experienced something like this? What could be the problem? thanks, Greg
