UPDATE:

This thread rocks! I got the car back from the dealer. STAR now recommends that the connector be taken apart and the wires inspected for this issue. They found the exact same thing NIVO found and on the exact same wire! Again, this thread is a must read for those suffering the same problem.

RoostBoost, I can tell you that with an identical problem, my boost was immediately jumping to 5-8 psi with only a touch of throttle. Now max boost at hard throttle seemed to be held back by the ECU....I never got above 10 psi. But that immediate boost in 2nd and 3rd while barely touching the gas was pretty annoying. Mileage also fell to crap.....I was avergaing about 190-200 miles a tank until the fix.

my car threw the p0123 code i had the dealer look at it and they replaced the tps, then they called me and told me that some inspector had to look at my car because i had done things to the car that might affect that wiring harness like the hyper ground wires, what a load of crap that is. so i said to stop all work on it and i'll be there to pick it up, didn't want my warranty messed with so i took all the stuff off and back to stock, all i need to do is borrow someones un cut and unbent heatshield, i'm taking it to another dealer today or tomorrow. I hope that i'll get it fixed if not then i guess i'll attempt to do the diy fix

I had this same exact problem 2 weeks ago.. car would surge on downshifts, and never hold idle. I had it serviced by Koons Dodge in VA, and the problem was a broken wire in the harness. If any of ya'll live in No. VA definatly go to Koons Dodge, they have some no BS techs there that arn't scared to get into it deep. I was impressed

same problem on my car, damn if that don't make the car run like shit! The black/blue wire severed itself internally, performed a quick solder connection and retape...all is well.

Question, where in the harness are people finding the severed wire? In the three wires to the TPS plug after leaving the main harness, or once the three wires enters into the main harness? I have a strange idle (sounds like slight miss/rough) and I checked my wiring last night. Stripped back about 1 1/4" insulation from the TPS plug pin back and found no breaks in the wire. Wanted to check before ripping into the main harness.

Thanks,

my car has had a slightly rough idle from day one. I think it's just a high strung neon... if your TPS wire severs, first off your check engine light will pop up immediately, followed by excessive blow off (if you have a Mopar BOV) and eventually it'll render the car undrivable. The TPS sensor is mounted on the front of the TB with 2 torx screws. there is a plug right on it with 3 wires going into it. The blue/black one was my problem wire.

Hey ATL_SRT has dale looked at your IAC yet. I'm wondering if that sensor, if fouled, can cause a bumpy idle? Also, who fixed your TPS wire and what was wrong with it? I am trying to fix my idle w/o involving the dealer and I am pretty sure its one of these two sensors.

I fixed the TPS wire myself and the "how-to" Nivo posted will guide you thru the process fully, its well written (will Pit Viper helped too, but it's an easy process really, probably a 4 out of 10 on difficulty). If you follow dale's directions on the IAC you shouldn't have any issues doing that yourself either.... just dont' be wreckless is all.

I'm still "kinda" having this problem....it's so random though, I'm thinking it's something else...doesn't it get progressively worse....

where's the tps wiring...?

Dealers have connector packages available that only cost around $20.00 for the tps. The connector is for the older neons but the terminal ends are the same if you would have to extend the wiring. Just remove the wires out of the stock connector and plug in the new wires. I'll try to get the part number when I go to work tommorrow.

well I moved around the TPS wiring and nothing happened...I can't figure out what's going on.. It only seems to happen in hot weather....(usually) only happens first 15 mins the car is running...car revs from 1 to 2k rpms...sometimes will stutter back down below 0.5 and almost die but catch itself....anyone???
