Default Need to replace water pump

I need to replace the water pump in my Srt-4, but I can't find any threads that tell how to do it. Any help would be great.

Look at thread dealing with timing belt R&R and download the service manual. Service manual is a sticky in the How To section

My guess you found your answer, but basically you remove the timing belt, then do the following:

1. Hold the intake cam sprocket completely still, and remove the bolt holding it onto the cam.
2. Now do the exhaust. (Yes, you can swap #1 and #2 if you want)
3. unbolt the timing tensioner and idler pulley
4. unbolt all of the bolts holding the inside cover on
5. If you haven't already drained the coolant for the timing belt, now's your time.
6. Unbolt the 5 or 6 bolts holding the water pump on.
7. Clean the mounting surface
8. (Per FSM) apply dielectric grease (Vasoline would probably work) in the groove on the new water pump.
9. Insert the o-ring into the greased groove.
10. Put more grease on top of the o-ring
11. bolt it up, using the torque from the FSM
12. do everything in reverse to build it up.

Note that some water pump warranties require that you do a complete cooling system flush. Use DCX HOAT coolant, or Xerex G05 coolants only. Everything else (Regardless of what the bottle says) does not meet the requirements set by the mfr. Prestone and Peak are boat OAT formulations, not HOAT.

I used a cardone, it had an aluminum impeller instead of the factory plastic one.

That being said, think the factory is better as you can get thinner walls which means you move more water per rotation. Be very careful though - most places are happy to sell you the stratus 2.4L with the stamped piece of junk impeller. Yes it will bolt up, but you will probably overheat. Sport compact car did a story on the srt-4 engine when it came out, and they specifically mention how DCX upgraded the cooling with the better impeller which flows something like 40% more fluid.

At risk of being burned at the stake The factory piece is already "hot-rodded"

Get the factory service manual in PDF format from the sticky part of the How Too section. Once downloaded open it up and then using the search feature built into the PDF reader find the torque specs. Most likely it will be within the section describing the water pump install Or it will be in the first part of the engine section where there's a torque specs chart.
