HOW-TO: Test for Boost Leaks

MODERATOR EDIT: Info on how to test for boost leaks is a few posts down. Link to thread on how to make boost leak tester is: GLHS's second gen Boost leak tester how-to / parts list

I need to know how to test for boost leaks, I mean the actual procedure on how to do it. I have the Mach V Motorsports leak tester with adapter hose so I can use a bike pump. My pump has a PSI gauge on it and I'm Stage2 so I'll probably pump it up to 20Psi. Any tips, do's or don'ts. Car on or off? Hook me up. Thanks.

Here is what a boost leak tester can look like. (Mach V Motorsports leak tester)

Steps.

1. Remove the air inlet hose off the turbo inlet (there's a clamp holding on the inlet hose; remove that)

2. Attach your leak tester to the air inlet

3. Pressurize the system

4. Once you hit 20-22 psi ( which is a good number under your circumstances btw) If you don't hear any leaking air, you prob ok, but if you want to be 100% certain, take some soap water and spray it on the "hot spots" ie. the turbo outlet, cold side pipe, etc. I'm sure you know the rest.

5. Tighten clamps where leaks exist.

6. Re attach the air inlet hose

7. Your done.....easy as cake

shove a 3/8 socket extension inside the tube that goes to the airbox and the tube that goes into the intake. I think it says 3/8 on the elbow. also, there is a sticky at the top of the srt dealer/service problems area.

Dont forget to cap off the black hose which connects to your air intake since that will leak air fast without if being capped

I'm not sure how its possible without one. No matter whos tester you use, your going to leak past the throttle plate.

I tried to test my car and a friends car.. it wouldnt go above 7psi on both cars........

When I began to test the car, I noticed the WGA arm moving out as it built pressure.

But anyways, yeah both cars wouldnt go past 7psi....... kind of weird, and ideas?

Well when i do it i push the gas tothe floor is that a bad thing? Figuring in thta you need to open the throttle plate, i am s3 i can only get it up to 14 lbs and wont build an higher pressure, so should i test with my foot of the pedal? I know i have a leak i am only spiking 19 and holding like 17. Any ideas.
