Default How-To: Remove Paint from Head/Fog Lights

i painted my head/ fog lights yellow a while back and i decided its time to go back to clear. ive searched all over trying to find the best way to remove the paint, without damaging the lense. theres really no way to do it, unless you are willing to put in sum time.

heres how i did it-

* im not gonna be held responsible for damaged parts and or poor results, this is just me sharing my process of removing the paint from my headlights and sharing my results *

Hope this helps some people out!

youl need-

a scotchbright pad (sponge yellow with rougher green side)
simple green
1200 grit sand paper
1500 grit sand paper
2000 grit sand paper
rubbing compound
meguiars plastic x
paper towel
highspeed buffer.

1) remove lights from the car

2) wash with soap and water

3) get your sponge and put some simple green on it (use the rougher green side of the sponge)

4) scrub that lense (gonna take a lil elbow grease) and youl see the paint starting to come off, youre gonna see the paint start to bunch up, make sure you rinse it out every now and then.

5) continue scrubing til paint is gone

6) repeat on other light or lights

7) now you need your 1200 grit paper, take your light to a large kitchen sink and hold under foset, keep a lil water on the surface the whole time

8) start wet sanding the light with the 1200 paper

9) when you feel that the 1200 has gone as far as it will go, start with the 1500

10) when you feel that the 1500 has gone as far as it will go, start with the 2000

11) youre gonna wanna take your time and make sure you sanded everything evenly

12) after youve finished sanding, wash again with saop and water

13) dry the lights

14) get your paper towel and rubbing compoud out

15) dab your paper towel in the compound (get a good amount on there) and then rub it into the lense

16) rub it in til it gets harder to rub and add a lil more

17) get another papertowel and remove the compound

18) then get your plastic x and your papertowel (a new one) and put some on it.

19) rub it in like you did the compound til its harder to rub and add a lil more, rub it in real good.

20) let it sit til it hazes up a lil (like wax) and then remove it with a fresh paper towel

21) by now the light should look good enough to throw on the car and be satisfied.

22) *not required* high speed buff with rubbing comound, then with plastic x to desired finish.

23) install onto car

24) crack open a beer and relax

hope this helps yall out

yeah, they were frosted, they were frosted like hell man. but after al the sanding, and the 2000 grit, you do the compounds and the plastic x which is what makes it clear again.
