I did mine and tightened till the wheel was dragging. Backed off so the wheel spun freely again. With the tire still off the ground, I pulled on the parking brake to make sure both wheels were engaging. However, after I release the brake, both wheels were still difficult to turn as if it did not fully disengage. I loosened and repeated. Same results. Anybody have ideas or should I just not engage the parking brake with the tires off the ground?

you mean the wheels wont turn at all after you disengage it? its a pretty fine balance between too tight and too loose. last time i didnt tighten it enough and the brake was still too loose, you may have just overtightened it a bit (or did one wheel backwards which i did when figuring this one out)

I just did mine today, this helped a lot. Thanks a lot for the writeup. Also this should be noted, when I did mine the star gear that is moved with the screw driver doesn't take much to fully adjust it. I only had to move mine a few turns. Also, be sure to feel how the wheels move (spin them) *BEFORE* you adjust the parking brake, so you know how much they should be turning after they are adjusted. Mine would graze the brake pads very slightly when moved.

Any tips to get the star wheel to budge? It took me close to an hour but I got the driver side one to move a few turns. After about an hour and a half of jabbing every tool I owned at the passenger side one I had to give up. Would it be ok to spray some wd-40 in there to loosen things up? I'm nervous to take apart the rotor and caliper so I'd like to avoid that route if possible.

its funny how such a simple thing is not widely known... i looked cuz i didnt know how to do disc brakes only to learn that its the exact same as it is with the drum brakes on my 84 mustang i just did that one a month ago... now ill do the neon soon (since its a piece of cake)

To answer my own question, a little bit of WD-40 went a long way. Only took me about a half hour to do both sides using a regular screwdriver.

Well the other day I parked in a friends driveway with a slight hill. Came back out and my car was at the bottom of his driveway. Yeah now it doesn't move at all, thank you.

Was at the track and couldn't get my E-brake to hold me back completely and has been weak on driveways (reverse).

Thanks for the write up I am doing this today!
