Hey I just painted my rims today using your instructions. I'll post pics later on tonight. Thanks for the great write-up.

Well it is an all day project. I started taking the wheels off around 8 in the morning and put the final 2 on around 4:30 in the afternoon, however I did take some breaks. Taping probably took me about 15-20 minutes on each tire. The first one took alot longer than the other three since I messed up a few times.

Bump - The Engine paint only comes in black / red or aluminum... what if I wanted a gun metal?.. What paint should I use?

they make rim paint now..Ive seen it, at pepboys and autozone, atleast they did in my area. My friend with a focus did it to his rims and it turned looking like he had them done professionally.. they come in gunmetal and pretty much anycolor rims come in typically.

You are not really trying to sand them, just scuffing the clear that is on them to give it some "tooth" I used Scotch-Brite and some AJAX kinda stuff on mine.....worked WONDERFULLY.....No problems at all to this day.....

Here's My How-to(pretty much the same):
